Momma!
She looks around the room and....and....she's in a strange place in a white nightgown....]

[Y'know, he usually likes screaming. Just not so early in the morning.

Later on (CHRONOLOGY SON), he'll be going to check on whoever just showed up. Always so much coming and going in this house...]

[By now Carrie is dressed and straightening up the room. She'll freeze though when someone walks in.]

Hello?

Good morning. [Totally just standing in the doorway like the cool guy he is.] Were you the one screaming before?

Who are you?

You may call me Dr. Crane. I currently live in this house, along with two other people I'm sure you'll meet or already have met.

May I ask your name, child?

[WHOA

hold on

let's just back this train up.

It... It has to be a coincidence. What sort of horrific parent names their child... It has to be.] And where are you from, Carrie? If you don't mind my asking.

I'm from Chamberlain, Maine.

[Crane is of two minds about this-- though he has a tendency to be anyway. On one hand, that is far too specific for it to be a coincidence, and learning of her home all but confirmed it. On the other hand, this would mean that the main character of one of his favorite novels was alive and standing in front of him, which wasn't doing him any favors in the delusional thinking department.

Well. Is it any less strange than alternate realities and aliens?]

... It's very nice to meet you, Carrie. [And he actually sounds like he means it.]

[Which is strange....Carrie just looks at him nervously.]

It's... nice to meet you...too.

[She's clearly just repeating that. Because oh god, what is going on in her life right now.]

Do you know why we're here?

We're here to be little more than toys, really, for a being with immense power but very, very little maturity. They give us roles to play-- father and doctor, daughter and student-- and when we invariably rebel against these roles... They punish us.

Brainwashing. Death, though that isn't as permanent here as it is back home. They have flashes of incredible creativity at some points, though. They're very good at what they do.

To control. They want to create their own little world and populate it with living dolls; to do that, they must keep everyone and everything in order. But, humans are a rebellious kind, and remarkably poor learners. Thus, conflict.
