Dell Laptop Owners

Saw this on the news... Big recall on the batteries in many Dell laptops. Check out the link and see if it applies to you... Apparantly the defective ones have a chance to explode and/or burst into flames. Pretty serious... Make sure you check it out.https://www.

Jesus, haha... that really is a serious recall. That's why, first of all, people should never purchase a Dell. And secondly, people should just all get Macs! They don't get viruses, they're prettier, and they never explode (at least not to my knowing, haha).

Hope Minneapolis is a wonder! Hopefully you're pantless again today! :D

*shudder* Macs. Eeeeevil.

I kid, I kid.

I'm a PC kind of guy. I used to use Macs a lot in my newspaper days, though. But they have their issues too, for sure. Either way, I haven't heard of any iPods exploding... yet.

I saw that on Good Morning America.. and they brought up the plane thing. It happened before on some flight but now I can't recall if they actually said any rules were forthcoming.

I hope you're referring to laptop batteries exploding... and not to snakes.

No, seriously, if I had infinite money to spend on a laptop, I would have gotten a Mac. I did not have $1500 to spend, so I spent $900 on a Dell. I really, really, REALLY wish Mac users would stop bitching at PC owners to get a Mac. Not all of us can afford them. Sorry, but you're the fifth person to bother me about this in the last week.

Also, I just checked my battery. See teh circled model number on the page linked above? Yeah, that's my battery. It will take TWENTY DAYS for the replacement to come. Excellent.

Well, the up side at least, is that you can plug it in and not need a battery. So, it's not like your computer will be totally useless while waiting for the replacement... Just not totally portable.

considering how often I knock the plug out, and how often I have it on my lap, I don't know if it's a good idea to remove the battery.

I wouldn't want a bare diode to touch my leg while it's plugged into the wall. Unless that doesn't pose a danger...

I don't think it'll be much of an issue. I don't think it can actually shock you like that.

Either way, "roughing it" for a couple weeks seems preferable to the chance that it might spontaneously burst into flames on your lap. That'd be kind of... not... good...

Yeah, but I've had it for over a year without flame-bursting... Has there been a shift in the planets that's made it more susceptible than it's been for the last year? I also don't think the change is spontaneous. I'll probably notice a drastic change in temperature with enough time to remedy the situation.
