Summer is gone...

Didn't get to do all the cool hiking/climbing I had planned on this summer (as I was stupid and decided to take two classes the same quarter.) The Stuart trip was cool, though Tracy's knee started acting up so we didn't push the summit and risk having to rescue her. I have a couple of cool fall hikes in mind, and Laura (also has been down with knee issues) has promised to play hooky with me if we come up with a perfect weather window.

I've been training like crazy at the gym for climbing. I can do nearly all the 5.10's now, and am pushing myself into the 5.11 range. My real problem currently is lead climbing outdoors. Anything over a 5.8 outdoors and I just end up losing my nerve. I am progressing slowly though. Mid-summer and I couldn't even lead a 5.6, I was so scared of falling. My plan is to train hard all winter at the climbing gym, and then hopefully when we're living in southern california for a couple months I can hit the local crags near Victorville. I'm building up my trad gear rack in preparation. Tracy has quickly caught up to (or surpassed) me in climbing skill, and she's going to be the perfect climbing/mountaineering buddy. Another friend, Jackie, I just introduced to climbing this summer, and she too is progressing quickly. I'm excited for next summer already.

For this winter, plans are to snowboard up at the pass at least 2-3 times a week. Trips to Whistler and Colorado are also in the works. This winter I want to get more comfortable on black diamond runs. Oh, and we're doing a cross-country trip to the Methow valley.

Work lately is completely blah, and not worth mentioning. I currently only work to live, and live to be in the wilderness. I hope things change at work very soon.

My car was broken into this past Monday when I was at the park for a few minutes with John and my dog. The f-ing bastards took my purse, and I lost my wallet, my iPhone, and my glasses.

I've spent my nights ever since dreaming of what I'll do to them if I ever see them again. Yes, I saw the theives. I doubt anyone will ever miss them if they were gone. The whole world would be a better place, in fact.

The Master's degree is progressing; I am just finishing up my third quarter, and have all but one of the core required classes. I've decided that after this program if I'm still with the same company, I'm going for an engineering master's degree next. I would just have to decide on aero or materials science. I'm leaning toward materials...
