The main thing is that she has nothing to give. Being close to anyone is well beyond her, the place where affection and trust should be is just numb and empty. She is able to look at people and know that they are good or bad, know whether it would be reckless to trust them or not, but she doesn't have any trust. She will always be armed, she will always be ready, and she won't hesitate to defend herself or someone else, from anyone, even if it was someone who would otherwise have all the earmarks of a friend.

She doesn't see any future for herself, she's not building ties, she's just experiencing things as they are around her. She's chained down to the past, and is effectively dead. A ghost in the waking world. Or unwaking world, as the case may be.

Another issue is that she does have serious emotional instabilities that do cause her to completely shut down, to the point that she isn't even experiencing anything anymore, she's just drifting. She had a panic attack in Kelly's restaurant, and she burst into tears in front of Sora, and while she was able to get herself back under control, her head and her heart were in so much chaos she probably couldn't tell you what she did afterwards, or what lead up to it.

She knows that she's damaged, and she self-denigrates about it, but at the same time she doesn't seem to realize just how deep it goes because she knows that her fears are valid, she knows that there is the capability for evil in everything.
