Each one he killed had a story.

The man was someone he couldn't ignore. He was like Dexter, in a way, the way he masked everything under a smile. His name was John and he liked to track down children. He had that monster inside of him, the monster that pushed him over the edge and made him do things he didn't regret. That's why Dexter followed him. When he cut the flesh from John's limbs, he had his story. He knew him, he saw him.

The second one was a woman. She went by the name of Alexa, and she would coax men and women into her bed, only to kill them for money. There was something different about her. She only went after the people who seemed most innocent even as adults. The ones that didn't deserve to die. She lived her life as anyone 'normal' would. She had a family, she was outgoing and made sure to please whoever she could, but she was twisted. When he looked her eyes as he slit her cheek for the blood he kept for later, the blood he used for memories, her eyes were filled with knowledge. She knew this would happen. She had never met him before, yet, the way she looked at Dexter, it was in such a way that he knew she understood him. He didn't mind, it just gave him a reason to kill her faster.

The third had a glint in his eye that told Dexter he wanted to die. Cataloging the memories from this kill wouldn't be hard, it was so like the rest, yet had a tinge of something different. Jack lived the same life Dexter did, he had a clean apartment, a 'happy' life, a girlfriend that would probably miss him. But he wasn't really like Dexter. Dexter didn't want to die, Jack did. Jack killed women for fun, Dexter killed because he had to kill. It's why he picked the chainsaw. Tonight, he was going to rip up Jack the Ripper. It was only fair.

The fourth was easy. A simple thing to rid the Need inside of Dexter, the Need that brushed up against him with ease and seduction to pull him under all over again. He may have been a crappy motel owner, he may have done a few bad things he regretted, but Dexter couldn't just let it go. Not with the Need scratching and pulling at his mind until he let it all go. That's why it was so easy. Killing his own spouse to avoid getting married. Humans are disgusting sometimes.
