It was a long day of driving through farmlands playing what's-growing-in-that-field and count-the-calves. Lots of road construction. It seems that South Dakota is renovating overpasses this summer, so it was detour off the freeway, get back on the freeway. We got tired of the voice on the TomTom, which was the computer generated voice called "Susan". We tried "Richard" for a while, but he was boring. Now we're listening to a recorded voice that goes by the name of "Tammy", with a faint British accent (she calls the highways "motorways") and a rather breathy quality. My Beloved likes it. Hmmm...
Our campground last night was lovely, well-shaded, and equipped not with a pool, but a lake! (
http://www.flyinggoosecampground.com/) The Boy swam for two hours. Beloved and I sat on the deck by the lake and watched a distant thunderstorm. It was so far away, we couldn't hear the thunder at all, only see the lightening flickering in the tall cloud bank. Better than fireworks. We watched for almost an hour, then went for dinner in town, and the light show was still going on when we left the restaurant. The cloud bank was moving away from us, but it seemed to move quite slowly. I think that was a trick of the plains, because the horizon is so much farther than I'm used to. There are no horizons in the hills of Tennessee. The only thing wrong with this campground is the mosquitoes. Oh, well.
Let's see how far we get tomorrow.
