Life went on, Hinata supposed, but she doubted that she would ever figure it out.
Konoha in shambles, her cousin close to death and one of their own turned traitor... Hinata chewed her lip almost subconsciously now- she'd thought she was past this. She'd thought she was stronger now, but she couldn't still her trembling hands or combat the dark feelings of unease broiling in the pit of her stomach.
With a heavy sigh, she forced her eyes shut and attempted to mediate her breathing into something less than exhaustingly erratic. She was interrupted by the soft rustle of someone sitting down next to her and her eyes fluttered open to see a pair of wide, bright eyes peering at her from underneath unnaturally long eyelashes.
She'd never actually spoken to Rock Lee before, only heard her cousin speak of him. Neji said that the boy was a: "Fool", although the word was spoken with less contempt over time. He grinned at her, sideways, and the two sat in silence.
However, silence in the presence of Rock Lee was often doomed to be short lived. After a few minutes (of anxiously watching the clock on the opposite side of the room), he turned to her and said, gravely: "Do not worry, Hinata-san. Neji's spirit is strong."
Hinata didn't try to hide her slow, terse smile and replied: "Sometimes a strong spirit just isn't enough. Neji-nisan was... he was hurt very badly."
Lee reached over and rest a comforting hand on her shoulder, "Then you should believe in him, Hinata-san! If we believe in him enough, the power of our spirits will reach out to him and give him strength!"
Hinata drew her shoulders up and sighed wistfully, imagining the irritated and incredulous expression Neji would likely be wearing in her place. But she pressed her eyes shut and started to believe anyways.
