My Ebony
"Den."
"Mmm?"

"What?"
Laughter, and Den spun on his heel and snapped: "Sean, what do you-" only to cut himself off when Sean shoved a crumpled piece of paper in his face.
"I found this at the bottom of your suitcase."
Den furrowed his brow, "What were you doing in my suitcase?"
Sean opted to ignore the question and, instead, cleared his throat and began reciting in an operatically dramatic voice: "Beautiful-" pause, "I never knew the word until you smiled at me with tears on my eyelashes."
Den frowned.
"This is the most fucking sappy sentimental piece of crap I've ever heard in my life. I can't beleive you wrote it."
"Well, I did." Den shrugged.
"Hell, I didn't even know you had feelings like that, Mr. Apathetic wonder. Who's it about huh?"
With a sigh, Den rolled his eyes and turned his back, "No one you know."
"Feh, that's a lie if I've ever heard it. Come on Den- we've known each other for, like, ever! You can tell me!"
"I told you, it isn't about anyone you know."
"It's about me, isn't it!?" Sean exclaimed, shaking the paper for emphasis, "It totally is. I knew it- that why you were hiding it, right? Too afraid to admit your super secret homosexual desires for me?"
"That might work, Sean, if we'd ever had sex. Which we haven't. So no, guess again."
Sean sighed miserably and slumped into his seat, "Okay, well in that case lets just put it to music."
Den blinked and glanced at his best friend over his shoulder, "I thought the exact words you used were: fucking sappy sentimental piece of shit?"
"Yeah," Sean beamed, "But I didn't say I didn't like it."
And the rest, as they say, is history.
