Prolife Picture
Is anyone else bothered this picture?
I understand what they're going for, but it just seems ignorant to me at the same time. As if a person couldn't be passionate about pro-life issues and the earth at the same time. I mean, I'm staunchly pro-life, and when I see another woman wearing this on a t-shirt (yep, it's happened), I get a bit miffed that other people are going to consider pro-lifers to be stereotyping everyone else. As in, "She seems too hippy to be against abortion," or whatever.
I also fear that people may get the idea, "Oh, all the pro-lifers are the same." I suppose that's not so bad, but I think part of the beauty of any cause, is that if you take the time to notice, the people who make up that cause are anything but the same. We're all different types of people leading different types of lives, but we all believe strongly about something. And especially in the fight against abortion, it seems massively important that pro-choice people understand that it's not just one type of person, "trying to take away a woman's rights," or what have you... The pro-life movement is made up of so many different people who all recognize the sacredness of life. While religion or upbringing may impact why you're pro-life, it goes beyond that.
I'm not sure I conveyed what I'm thinking all that well... This is just how I feel about it. But what do you think?
