Something I've noticed during my studies which touches briefly on the topic of abortion politics; and I'd like your input to make sure I'm seeing this clearly.
One feminist mantra since the sixties has been "The personal is the political." On this view, the personal situations a woman might encounter in her everyday life are not to be seen as conflicts to be resolved between her and those immediately involved; they are to be politicized as signs of an oppressive male-oriented system against females. As such, feminists could transform what were originally thought to be private issues into ones that must be addressed by governmental policy and legislation.
Now take a moment and consider another (arguably) feminist phrase: "Keep your laws off my body"...
Are these two statements at odds with one another?
