How did you become a lifelong Packers fan while living in Illinois? (says the Cubs fan up in central Wisconsin) You play the ukulele? Awesome! Joe himself used to play the ukulele when he was a busker in his youth. And Steve Burns was fun to see at the Empty Bottle...but he was rather an ass. He was hanging out with all the young pretty people and declined the beer I offered to buy him (I was not being sleezy about it either, and clearly had on a wedding ring but, sadly, I know I look like a mom and I think those scare the hell out of him to this day). My favorite song off Dustmites is Troposphere. I don't know about Netherbeast Incorporated. What is that?
I saw you mentioning Voltaire somewhere in one of your recent posts. That's sort of gothy isn't it? I love goth (and I love The Cure above all) but I also like Radiohead and The Flaming Lips massively. I like most music, actually...though the country thing is hard going for me. I'm trying. I'm basically a geek and a flaming liberal and so there are a few things I have hated just on principle- among them are sports, country music and religion. Certain personalities have compelled me to confront all three head on this year, which is remarkable in itself. I have lifelong friends who would've bet big money against my ever showing interest in any of them. I like being unpredictable. :)
I have a love/hate relationship with Brett Favre, as you can probably tell. I have largely ignored him for as long as I have known of his existence, right along with his sport, and then hated him for awhile last season when he was being all dramatic and unkind to my boy. I started spending some time in a local sport shop and the owner there is a huge Favre fan. He slowly chipped away at my anger with his theories that Favre was basically forced out of Green Bay and the shadow of doubt diffused my anger somewhat. Then I read some books on him so I could try to form my own opinion...but I stupidly chose almost all books that Favre himself had written, lol, so I began to like him (and I liked hearing about Green Bay). Now? With this shite he's pulling? He's looking like a vindictive, spoiled baby who is anxious to destroy all lingering love for him in Wisconsin, which I think is a big shame. I wanted to see him retire as basically a lifelong Packer with one weird midlife crisis lapse at the end. Has no one explained to him that it's best to go out on top?
Watching football this year got me interested in more than the Packers. I did watch some Jets games and, by the end of the season, I was liking on a whole slew of QBs- The Mannings, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, Tom Brady (reluctantly), Kurt Warner...God, I'm sure there's more. Ah well, I've bugged you enough for now (can you tell I have pent up football talk needing to come out? lol)
I grew up in Illinois, but pretty much my mom's entire family is from Wisconsin, so I picked it up young from my grandpa. It has caused no end of suffering being surrounded by all these rabid Bears fans (my hometown is extra obnoxious since Tom Thayer's from here), but worth it. And yeah, I love my uke. Picked it up on a whim last Summer and now it really beats studying for finals.
Shame Steve was kind of a jerk, but I could understand being a little leery of the soccer mom crowd in his situation. Netherbeast Incorporated is a little independent movie he starred in pretty recently, maybe last year? I'm not usually big on vampire movies but that one was funny and awesome.
I do love Voltaire, especially his Star Trek stuff, as well as Radiohead and the Flaming Lips. A band I occasionally collab with does a whole lot of both of them. I am also a geek and a flaming liberal, but I love country music. Grew up listening to it and all that, so it's kind of an awkward situation with some songs promoting values that make me uncomfortable, but it's not all bad.
Favre. Oh dear. Before the first unretirement mess I shamelessly adored him, even when he was throwing soul-crushing interceptions in playoff games. After that, though, I sided firmly with the Packers, which led to lots of arguments with my dad, who sided with Favre because he has a total mancrush on him. I didn't really mind him going to the Jets, except for Chad Pennington getting booted to make room, but this Vikings crap is just such a massive spiteful 'screw you' to Green Bay and the fans and that just isn't cool.
Yeah, I do fantasy football with my coworkers, so that gave me a lot of interest of football outside of Green Bay these past couple seasons. I loved watching Ryan and Flacco last year do the awesome rookie thing, the constant Cowboys drama and the Cutler/Rivers rivalry were super fun, the resurgent Dolphins, Jim Sorgi-king of week 17 (and my heart), all sorts of stuff.
I totally understand the pent-up football thing. As much as I love them, all my friends are big old nerds who are very confused by my love for large men in spandex running into each other.
Yeah, I'm not on a ton, but my SN is SexinAngelKaworu (which could be on a billboard warning against 13 year old girls who've just discovered yaoi picking their own screennames, but oh well. :) )
