Where 2012 was a demolition year, 2013 was a rebuilding year. In 2012 I leveled the landscape, preparing the ground for new life. I languished without a job for a few months, finally finding a temp job at Yeshiva University that would lead to a permanent position in 2013. I made the decision to move out on my own in 2012, and spent most of 2013 displaced until finally moving to Brooklyn just in the nick of time. Although I contemplated taking freelance work in 2012, in 2013 I secured a regular gig writing for a magazine. In 2012 I sprained my ankle, and in 2013 it was healed and I marched on it a lot.
There is plenty of room for rebuilding in 2014, and even more demolition. I'll continue to settle into my new apartment and neighborhood. Yeshiva University could either be the home of a new career for me or a stepping stone to elsewhere. The writing gig will help me develop a portfolio that I can hopefully take to new freelance opportunities.
An ongoing side project of mine is to return my level of involvement in community organizations to "member" (as opposed to "coordinator," or god forbid "president"). I am curious to see what I will do with my free time when I don't spend it planning and organizing and implementing. My hope is that I will pick the cello back up, and play the piano more, and actually finish a composition, but if all I do is read more and stay current with a few TV shows, I'll be satisfied.
