i'm very eager to see the future of hip-hop scholarship. i can't help but think about how it is going to be the "new jazz" in the sense that it will be discussed critically and legitimately in a forum that will respond intellectually. perhaps, to some, this would be a bad thing. that this would be a "bull-shitizing" of a culture "untainted" by academia. but the fact is, i truly believe there is such a wealth of knowledge and insight into the human condition that we can gather from hip-hop culture. what began in the 1970's on the streets of new york city is nothing short of a cultural revolution. i couldn't help but be amazed when i was watching style wars (see previous entry).
anyway. i've just been sitting here looking up hip-hop and the classroom. this is very exciting.
