Full House Today

Today we had the whole group (all six of us) … Team Chris was out in full force. He used the opportunity to remind himself about the joys of a sea of estrogen …

But, that said, we had a core workout today in recognition of the fact that last week, we missed our core workout. Boy did we ever! So for some (read The Bear) rediscovering the core was like going on a trip to a faraway country. Where is the core and when will it reveal itself? In my case, that may be a solid never, but some of us live in hope.

Get your mats. Get on the floor on your backs. Bicycles, go. Floor bridges, go. Side planks, go. Other side, go. On your back, legs in the air, hip thrusts, go. Curl ups to hamstring stretches, and keep doing it until told to stop. V-sits, go. Straighten your legs, hold it, hold it, hold it. Repeat whole circuit. Relax.

Break time yapping. The word “orgasm” was bandied about quite readily, and there was a lot of laughing today (not sure those topics are related, but in some ways, they may be).

On your back, floor bridge, extend one leg for a while, switch, switch, switch. Front planks, raise one leg, then switch. Back extensions. V-sits. Sit with legs straight in front, arms raised, raise one leg about 1-2 inches off the floor, hold it, then switch, then switch, then switch. On your back, legs in the air, hip thrusts. On your hands and knees, bird dogs and hold, then bring in extended arm and leg, hold tight together, extend, hold, bring in, hold, extend, hold … Repeat whole circuit, except in the floor bridges second time, when you raise your leg, do lateral extension only as wide as your mat.

With the whole group in force, we were noisy, lively, chatty and generally having a good time. Ruth’s getting in shape for upcoming skiing (as am I). Chris claims he has a 6-pack in progress (trust but verify - the Bear would like some proof). As Jayne prepares for a little surgery, Chris gave the magic health hug. The rest of us got high-fives. I said I was considering having surgery, could I get a hug? But by then, I needed to get back to work.

Pizza, potatoes, magic foods (Dr. Oz endorsed stuff) were also topics of conversation, and also that Lynda (ahhhhh, Lynda) is greatly missed by Chris and this group. Also some conversation around opening up our hips ... because hips are part of our core ... and we need to work our core because everything in our body is dependent on how in shape our core is ... It was a lively day in the gym.
