Oh my! Just when I'd begun to suspect this situation could become no more novel than it already was.

If we had free passes to send you home, we'd give you one in a heartbeat, boy.

Ah, well. It didn't hurt to ask.

I suppose you're someone in charge?

'In charge' is debatable, but let's just say 'yes' for now.

Ah, I see. In that case, you should still be the right person to speak to about whatever sort of trouble it is that I seem to have gotten myself into, now?

Oh, you haven't found yourself in any trouble at all. Well, you did accidentally fall through some sort of hole in the space-time continuum or whatnot, but besides that, there's nothing at all to be concerned with.

W-While I do find it reassuring that you don't seem to be upset about whatever's happened, uh...

I'm afraid I don't get the joke. The space-time what now? That all goes right over my head.

I figured it would. Sorry to say, though, it's not a joke. What it comes down to is that you've gotten whisked from your own world and plopped down into ours. We don't have a way to send you back quite yet, but we're working on it.

Keeping you guys around is a bit expensive, after all.

But that can't be right- That isn't even possible!

That's what I said! But, hey, you get used to seeing the impossible after a while around here.

I-I don't think I want to get used to that - or any of this!

The alternative is to go insane from frustration. I think getting a bit used to the terrible situation is the better option, myself.

Well, when you put it that way...

If those are my only options, ah. I wasn't planning to make a fuss, anyway. Can't I at least have some of my things back, though?

You'll get them back eventually. Keep being cooperative and you'll get them back sooner, assuming none of them are particularly dangerous.

[A halfhearted smile.]

You can keep my revolver, if you like. I'm really only concerned about my uniform, and that necklace. And those three dinars are all the money I have to my name.

That should be easy enough to do, though it might take some time. The paperwork involved is a bit difficult and, well, we've had quite a few of you show up at once, so we'll be backed up more than usual.

Although, I wouldn't worry too much about getting your money back; that currency doesn't exist on this planet.

What? But it's Roman- Uh, what about Rome? I guess, oh, that must be out of the question, too? Oh Lord. You say I'm not in trouble but I don't know what else to call this...
