[The audio starts with a brief whine of feedback. After working with nanocommunications for so many years, switching back to an old fashioned broadcast can be a little strange in itself. But Snake is nothing if not adaptable, and old habits are easy enough to fall back into. People familiar with Big Boss will recognize the voice. Different in the

[This had to be the one he was familiar with!]
You just got here?

[Lucky you, Raiden, Snake recognizes that voice. It takes him a minute to mess with the settings on the CLD so he can respond in kind. The video is faint and grainy. Sort of like the visuals you get with CODEC, really.]
Hn. Something like that.

...Well then, uh, welcome to... here.
[Though he isn't sure what he means by Canada, he assumes maybe he'd gone up there for whatever reason.]
It's about time someone I knew turned up. I couldn't contact you, Rose, Otacon or even the "Colonel".

[The Canada thing is...a long story. You were there! ...Naked.]
Sounds like I missed a lot. Otacon's not here, huh?
Reply
Nope. But Big Boss is, and so is Liquid. I guess Otacon will get here at some point... too bad I have a sinking feeling Rose isn't coming back, though.

[Snake sighs and runs a hand through his hair.]
Might be for the best. [...he's not sure how much of that crap in the pamphlets he believes. But he already doesn't like the look of this place.]
And I know about Big Boss. And Liquid. Don't worry.

Yeah, I'd rather she didn't get dragged here... and especially not if she's pregnant.

If she is, we'll handle it. You seem to be holding up.
[Especially considering the little identity crisis Raiden had had after what happened on Arsenal and all.]

At least you mised the acid rain. And by acid rain I mean people died and water was polluted. I think it's okay now, but... yeah.

That's a pretty dangerous line of thinking. No matter how realistic it gets, VR is just a game. Takes the fear out of a situation because there aren't real consequences to your actions. Are you really ready to make that assumption here?

I don't know how else to cope.
[He knew this wasn't VR... but after everything that happened at the Big Shell, he just couldn't face these kinds of mindgames quite yet.]

Raiden. [The "look at me" is unsaid, but pretty heavily implied. Not any louder, but definitely sharper, aiming to draw Raiden's attention back.]
...You and me. We're here now. As far as I'm concerned, that's as real as it gets. Doesn't even matter if you believe all that crap about your memories being fake or not. They're yours. What you do with them is up to you.
Reply
...I don't know what I believe anymore, Snake. The memories feel real... but I realize now that there's a different between feeling real and being real. I don't want to believe everything we did on the Big Shell was a lie. I don't want to believe that Rose is a lie.

I can't tell you what it is you believe. Afraid it's not that easy. That's something you're going to have to figure out for yourself.
But if you ask me, only a hell of a fool would give up so easily on something that's meaningful to them.

[It didn't make it any easier to swallow, but he was glad Snake was around to keep him grounded again.]
I'm not giving up on Rose. I know she's real... she has to be real.

Good. Now hold onto it. Don't second guess yourself. Remember, you're not alone in this.
