[Through some small consequence Light has come to believe that nobody from his own 'memories' are here. Still, that hasn't changed the fact that he's been cautious up until now, hiding his face and finding a job so that he can conceal his Death Note in a nice safe place. I've only been doing it a few days, but yes--it's definitely not what I was brought up to do.

Hm, we all have to get by, don't we?

I'm considering my options.

Why didn't you apply at a law firm?

I was brought up to be a police officer, and this ACRO they have here isn't really anything like that. I'm not cut out to be lawyer, so until I decide what to do with myself I don't want to make any proper commitments. This is a good halfway job. Enough to pay the rent.

You're using the past tense. Don't you expect to go home again?

I don't know what to expect, or to believe. Shouldn't I be using the past tense for people in my past? People I may never see again?

Maybe I'm just more optimistic than you. I believe that no matter how much things go to hell, they can always be fixed.

I'm perfectly optimistic, but that's a little much, don't you think? If you touch something you leave a fingerprint, and if you drop a nuclear weapon on it--
