[Well, his first time trying this video-function, after finding out that it's possible. Learning by doing is one of his mottoes after all. He looks a little lazy there and his hair looks like he as put his hands through it more than ones already.]Hey. I heard we'd need to find some kind of job and room to stay. I'm not really familiar with this, ( Read more... )

I take it you're another one from the past or somewhere less bureaucratic.

I don't think there's any guilds, unfortunately.

[He's only half-aware of what a guild even is.]

Your options for housing are simple enough. Either find somewhere abandoned, see if someone needs a roommate to balance rent or arrange to rent a place through landlords or officials. The only thing you need to be careful of is that you don't get taken advantage of.

The jobs part is the harder one; you need to find vacancies and sell your skills to the people in charge of them. Some people advertise in the windows of their businesses. Really, it depends what you're trying to get a job doing.

Bureaucratic?

[That's actually a big word there and he will frown, but he does think he got the picture anyway, because most worlds are probably identical at this point.]

Well, we had the Empire if you mean someone that governs the world, except maybe, the guilds with their town. All these wealthy people were more than enough to ruin the world anyway.

But that's not important. So you say I could just look for an abandoned place? Sounds way too much like camping if you ask me, not that I didn't do that often enough. Still, it's something that seems possible if I look around here... Looks a little like the abandoned town we have been through on our journey.

Actually, I guess as long as it got nothing to do with waiting at tables, anything should be good. Preferable something with fighting. Is that possible here?

It refers to an organization or government that is not elected and often makes you follow procedures that slow things down.

You could, if you wanted to.

There's always the police force - ACRO - or the Bounty Hunters Association. I don't think there's anything outside of those two that allows you to fight, but I could be missing something.

Sounds like the empire to me. There are only wealthy people in there anyway, others wouldn't even have a chance and they did slow us down way too much. They just can't keep their noses out of business where they don't belong.

Bounty Hunters? That sounds interesting and it's a start. Where would I be able to find them?

[He doesn't exactly know what a police is, so he won't think about joining them, but he does know bounty hunters.]

Pretty much, then.

[He idly recited the directions from memory.]

They do charge to join, however, so you might need to do something temporarily or sell something to get the money.

Got something like this here too?

[He's definitely trying to remember, so that he can find the way later.]

Wait. You need to pay them to get a job? Shouldn't it normally be the other way around?

Pretty much.

Technically, you're paying for the license to wield a weapon, I believe. Some jobs do require things like that. Most don't.

Great.

[That was one word filled with waaay too much sarcasm.]

You need a... license to wield a weapon? Who ever got such a dumb idea?

That would be whoever's in charge of this ridiculous place. Although most places back home do prevent people from wielding weapons at all unless they're in the military or members of a gun club.

That wouldn't be possible where I'm from! Well, not everyone could buy a weapon anyway, but without them they'd be monster food in no time. That is, when they leave the barrier of the town.

People here aren't permitted to leave unless they're registered with something like the BHA, so there's no risk of it here.

And back home, there were no monsters to fight.

So we aren't even allowed to leave the town. This sounds more like a prison or something... I have been in more than enough prisons already.

No monsters? Woah. Where did you come from? Didn't you have anything to fight then? Sounds actually pretty boring.

[Well, he is one to talk... he sat four years in town doing mostly nothing except maybe helping the people of the lower quarter or teasing the knights, therefore landing in prison (for the latter)....]

[Liquid flinches just slightly at that word.]

Close enough. They want to control us.

Earth. And of course I had something to fight. I'm a soldier. We fought other countries.

[And sometimes their own.]

Most people aren't fighters. They'd never survive in a world like yours.

[He openly frowns again.]

I don't like being controlled. The empire didn't manage that and I'll not let anyone else do that either.

Earth? Hm. Well, mine's called Terca Lumireis. I see... so you fight countries and we monsters, well and the knights aren't very fond of guilds either.

We have enough people that can't fight too, but we have guilds to help them with that or they just stay behind the barriers and live their life there.

Heh. [That's something they have in common, it seems.]

Technically, it's not the countries themselves we fight so much as the people in them.

I understand, but why fight them? Did they do anything to your people? Or are they just as power greedy as nobles?
