2008.07.20 - Houston Miata Club Cruise

Jul 20, 2008 22:16

What a weekend!  After a busy Saturday (and a late Saturday night of frustrating work on the Miata), I got up for an early start on my way to Houston. Unfortunately, it took a lot longer than planned to obtain a new power inverter and get everything hooked up.  I left Lake Jackson around 9:45 and arrived at the meet up location in Montgomery around 11:20.  Despite being twenty minutes late, there were still two other Miatas there, and they had been there waiting for the rest of the group since 10:30.  One chose to leave, and the other one remained behind to chat with me and plan out our own cruise since the others were not there.  Shortly thereafter we received a call from the organizer informing us that they had changed the start time but had forgotten to update all of the details in the event thread.  They had started their cruise at 10:00 am.  The other Miata driver (Bruce) and I decided to plot our own route and go for a drive anyway since we had each traveled pretty far for the cruise.  We headed out and drove for nearly 2 hours, and then relaxed and cooled off at a gas station while chatting mostly about cars.

Once I was ready to hit the road again, I called another HMC member (David Lee) and arranged to pick up some car parts before heading home.  I purchased a couple of early-style door panels and a fixed antenna mast, and then returned home.  If I go back up to Houston again some time soon to pick up some Lexan, I may purchase a set of spec-Miata tow-eyes from Mr. Lee and let him take some measurements of the SnugTop so that he can start fabricating spec-Miata hard top brackets for the SnugTops.

I may post some video from the cruise later.
