I finally decided that the only likely way to successfully seal the door weatherstripping would be to use the OEM pieces. I ordered the parts through Trussville Mazda. The price tag is very steep, but further continued trial-and-failure based on "possibly" rather than "probably" could quickly end up more expensive and less durable.
