- Finished and installed red door panels
I've been very bad about keeping this updated. :(
This past weekend/week I've been making the new door panels for the car. I traced and cut new panels out of the 1/8" ABS, then glued some foam and the red vinyl to them. I had to repair the shoulder pads that I got from Eric, but the passenger side pad only required minor repair. I used some PVC rod that I cut down, drilled, and shaped to replace the standoffs for the screws. Once I got everything finished and installed, I was a little disappointed to discover that the fitment wasn't quite as perfect as I had hoped and that the vinyl takes on a sort of pinkish hue when viewed in direct sunlight. (ಠ_ಠ) Whatever. I'm not planning to redo it now or any time real soon.
Oh yeah...I went to wash and install my wheels a few weeks ago and the paint at the edges started flaking off. I was not at all amused. I hit them with a power washer to remove anything loose and the paint seems to have stuck just fine except for at the edges. I started masking and touching up one wheel and everything was going great until I tried to spray the final clear coat on them. It frosted over immediately as it came out of the can. Apparently it's already too humid. I seriously hate this climate.
