- Checked and adjusted ignition timing
I had noticed some noise that may have been detonation from time to time on hot days when the A/C is on and the throttle is near full and in the upper RPMs, so I decided that I'd better check and adjust my timing if necessary. I had previously set the car to ~12 degrees of base timing using the OBD2 scanner to measure timing, which worked well under most circumstances, but it seems to be a little bit too advanced on 87 octane during very hot days at these low elevations. I decided to use a timing gun this time around to verify my data, and discovered that the car was set between 12 and 14 degrees. I retarded the base timing back to between 9 and 10 degrees (OEM spec is 8 for auto trans cars and 10 for manual trans cars), so I should be playing safely once again.
