oops, a lesson in acting my age.

Today, for the second time in nine years my right wrist wrote a check my body and machine couldn't cash. The coefficient of friction came up insufficient funds. You can break the speed limit all day long but newton's laws are trickier.

For the second time in these wonderful nine years of riding, my gear kept me out of the ER. The left side of my body is a lovely shade of ouch. I'm not rashed up too bad, just a couple small spots of missing skin. My body was wrenched by the impact with the ground, so most of my joints are in some form of stiff or sore or outright pain. Most people wouldn't notice that I'm moving a bit different or that occasionally I step wrong and limp. Heather probably would because she know my body language better. I like to think that I'm hiding the fact that I'm favoring my right side fairly well. Overall I'm lucky. I'm banged up pretty good but not damaged too much.

This has been a good lesson to me and I wanted to share it with you. Even if you're not a motorcyclist, it's applicable. Think before you act. Sounds simple but it's still true. I'm certainly not saying to "not act." I have plenty of friends that love to push the limits in one faction or another. To them I say keep on doing it, I know I will be.

Before you push it, roll it, fly it, climb it, drive it, slide it, jump it, pump it, drink it, smoke it, smash it, crash it, blow it, train it, glide it or whatever it is that you do. Make sure you have an exit strategy, make sure you know your safety checks, and be careful.

As we say, "Keep the rubber side down."

p.s. For those of you that really care: Yes the bike is ok. Like me, Vera's a little banged up but just fine.
