Moral of the story: Ron Moore is my Master now

Feb 23, 2008 23:38

OK, after taking at least an hour to dig through 2 days worth of monumental S4 promo photo fangirl squee on the Scifi.com Battlestar Galactica forum, I've dug up a bunch of fun tidbits.  Someone I know from the forum left tales of her visit this past week with writers and VFX guys from the show.

Come down here for details, mild spoilers rating 2 out of 10 on the SpirginScale, and a very cute photo probably from S1 or S2…

These are all on this thread, beginning on page 1358 and running through 1365.  Look for posts by werealljustfloating.  She is Irish (Scottish?) and was in Los Angeles this week for work - boardmember Mexichick (aka Bradley Thompson's significant other) invited her to visit the BSG production offices and hang out with the writers.  Here are some juicy bits:

It was great. Got to meet Bradey and David, Jane, Mark Verheiden, Kevin Seamus Fahey. Ron wasn't there, but they were about to go have a conference call with him. He's directing the first episode after the strike. A first for him.  Also got to meet the vfx people who were lovely and very generous with their time. You can tell they love what they do. Some of them worked on Firefly so we talked about that too. They showed me some very cool action/battle shots for season 4 which I wont spoil.

And they have a wall with loads of photos to story board everything. One set I wasnt supposed to look at, and one was ok to look at but I still saw stuff that was exciting.

I told Bradley about how the shippers had been pouring over the new promo pics and how they loved the new K/L pic. But he was very tight lipped.  He didnt say anything about K/L. I told him I had already read some spoilers and he told me not to be so sure cos theres lots of wrong ones floating around. They hate when things gets spoiled wrongly, or before the episode is finished. He doesnt mind if screeners get spoiled, cos thats the finished ep.

He did say, however that he and David loved writing Kara eps because Katee is just so good, they can throw anything at her and she'll make it work.  Mexi talked about how they worked on another show Katee starred in, The Fearing Mind, years ago. I knew of it, but have never seen it. Actually he was quite shy I think, but lovely. Jane I only got to talk to briefly in her office. Told her I had been a fan of hers since Buffy which she seemed pleasantly surprised by.

Here's a pic I came across in the VFX room. Thought it was cool, but it came out blurred dammit:

ETA: apparently this behind-the-scenes photo is in the collection of the VFX staff, and is from S1 or S2.  WAJF took a photo of a photo here.  Hence the blurriness.

{in response to others on the thread asking her for more deets on the Lee/Kara scene she saw:} Don't worry it wasn't anything too exciting. Just the two of them together on the flight deck. Lee in his blue suit and Kara in her tanks. Standing side by side, dont know what they were about to do....

There was one pic of another main character doing something new and wearing something different that is SO FRAKKING COOL!!!! Can't wait for everyone to see that!!!!

{Regarding the EW “Last Supper” photo:} Oh and the EW pic - the writers assistant - David, told us that at the shoot, he was on the phone with Ron and Ron WAS giving the specific instructions on where to put everyone. So Six is Jesus, Lee is supposed to be beside the cup etc... Very telling.... Poor guy is also responsible for keeping count of the survivors for each episode... Which can't be easy. Mexi told him that there are fans - not like me she pointed out - that keep tabs on every minute detail, so he better get it right!!

Bradley said that they expect to be finished filming by end of May or early June....

I especially enjoyed finding out how much they love Katee Sackhoff (= AS MUCH AS WE DO)...and filming info...and who was really directing that EW photo shoot (I KNEW IT!)...
