Hello I'm back.
The last time I posted I was going to go to the Dream Theater gig, well I went to the gig and it was the best one I've ever EVER been to. It took us a wee while to get there, there was quite alot of hiccups on the way, Graham and I were both starving so we wolfed a Burger King and raced off to the Arena.
The support slot was Symphony X. They played some stuff from their new album and if I remember correctly some of their older stuff, man they rocked! I had gone off them for a while and found them kinda irritating but I'm right back onto them again after that.
Then after a beer it was the turn of Dream Theater. "Constant motion" was brilliant. They also played "Surrounded" and right in the middle of it John Petrucci played the longest solo I've ever heard, it was brilliant soaring beautiful and atmospheric. And then as part of his solo he played the solo from "mother" by Pink Floyd. You can imagine how much I loved that. Also "The dark eternal night" and both parts of "in the presence of enemy territory" and "panic attack" were all outstanding, they totally blew me away, but heres the highlight:
They got round to playing "the spirit carries on" this had already become one of my favourite songs ever but it took on added significance when Scott died, I took huge comfort in it and whenever I went round to Brian's we'd blast it on his huge speakers. They played it live and I sang along to every word, even though my throat was failing me by that point, and then my favourite guitar solo of all time kicked in and I cried most of the way through it....Aww it was a brilliant moment.
Probably the watershed moment in remembering Scott, so thank you DT
Here are the 3 videos I took at the gig. Check them out, I hope you enjoy them:
