Volity needs a new hosting provider.

Any of y'all have any hosting recommendations? It is time to run screaming from CalPOP, who has been rebooting us a lot lately, usually with no explanation. We got rebooted twice this past weekend.

daerr thinks the machine's ethernet card is failing, but we are pretty sure they are too incompetent or lazy to do anything with this information if we told ( Read more... )

I don't know if you care for this option, but I've had decent luck from a virtual hosting provider http://www.tektonic.net/ . I have an unmanaged server from them with the bare minimum and it does a fine job. They gave me a newly installed Debian machine on a vhost (I don't know the flavor of vhost they're using) with a control panel that allows me all sorts of nice features.

I use mine for backup services thus far. I'm sure they would have something large for Volity, though I'm not sure that a virtual server would suit the RAM requirements you may have. Might be worth a call. You _can_ buy additional RAM on any vhost, so perhaps you could make it work.

And of course, Superb had good stuff. Really decent service, as far as I was concerned. superb.net for them.

I've used tera-byte.com for years with a variety of business accounts. Good service, reasonable prices, and I think there might have been one unscheduled outage in three years, lasting an hour or so.

They are by far the best hosting company of the three I've dealt with. The only issue may have is they are Canadian, so if you want to ship them a server of your own you'll have to deal with cross-border nonsense.

1and1 has worked well for me this past year. Also consider looking at Server Beach.
