In the past couple of days I was reminded of the real perks of the job of being an instructor. A few students took a moment to tell me how much they enjoyed my classes and how much I had meant to them personally during their course at school. Two of them took me by surprise. It's not necessarily the ones you click the best with, or like the best, that are the most touched by you and what you do.

You may be totally unaware of the impact you have on someone's life until they tell you. Your boss can tell you what a great job they think you are doing, but they are not there in your classroom the whole time, they can't know what you do like a student does. Having the students' feedback carries much more weight. The feeling imparted can't be measured in dollars nor invested in a mutual fund, but it is priceless nonetheless.

musings, school, good stuff, work
