Six become five, who will go on to the quarter finals.

I loved that opening pro group routine. Diane as boss robot inventor, wisely dancing with Neil, and wisely Karen was one of the first of the rest of the pros to appear (I didn’t realise some of ‘them’ were CGI renderings of the pros, but I’m sure most of the audience noticed and appreciated this), but it wasn’t so far out of the rest’s comfort zones, or they’re getting used to these styles, that my eye wasn’t caught by people out of sync, and was following where it should. Mainly Diane, backbending away and enjoying her feature spot mightily. (The really should give those poor pros some ballroom and Latin group routines now.)

Black from TessnClaud, enough fabric in Shirele’s purple gown for her to flap at the camera, a metallic dress with strong shoulders from Cynthia as a nod to Motsi, and Anton had retreated to being as boring as Craig.

Recap went middle two, bottom two and top two with a lot of time for judges’ and couples’ comments. Apparently women came along and spoiled the Argentine Tango like we did Doctor Who oh noes, do you think they had a boy-driven crimewave in Argentina afterwards?

Looking at the leaderboard again, there was quite some distance from John and Johannes and the rest, who were more bunched up together, although there were no ties.

First to be called safe…Dan. Oh yuck, he’s going through to the finals, isn’t he? (I’ve been presuming AJ, John and Rose, but I think one of them will fall now.) John and Johannes were the second, which is fair enough. Alas, unsurprisingly, Rhys was in the dance-off again, and he reacted with the same grace as the last time. Might have been better to ask for the advice of the less impressed-with-him judges than Shirley and Anton.

It felt like Dan talked a lot in the Clauditorium. All I could think of as John earnestly told us about his little speech to his dancing clothes was Rose unapologtically walking off with her beloved boots.

Years and Years and an…er…strong look. Two lady pros doing the same steps works (because they’re two pros.) I did spend half of this routine in the kitchen getting my pudding.

Judges’ comments that were mainly about Anton wanging on, and then they replayed him responding to Dan’s rumba via ‘dance’, and I realised that possibly the residual Bruno is of the chair is affecting him.

Now for the ladies to be sorted, and although the couples felt it, there wasn’t much tension. Would it be the higher scoring women who have never been in the dance-off or TILLY? Even Gordon Ramsay probably knew the answer. Craig telling Tilly to push it more felt more plausible than ‘find your inner sassy self and let her out’, because I think Tilly had done that best as she coud, and it wasn’t the time to reel off the technical adjustments that would improve the dance.

If Dan is doin it for the men who never thought they could dance, AJ is doing it for the kids who never had the opportunity to get dance lessons. Kai gave us his Craig, Gio batted his eyelashes at the camera, and Rose ratted ut her gran. <3 Rose.

Dance off with two very different dances. Rhys was just as good (okay, Craig, his bum did stick out a little) and kept it together. At one point, the camera cut to Tilly and Nikita, and little did we know what Nikita was thinking. So, they reprise their samba, Tilly was trying and fighting and then in the blink of an eye Nikita’s shirt was off.

It just made me really uncomfortable, and kudos to Tilly for not letting it faze her. She’d have been well within her rights to stop dancing. I don’t know what he was thinking, the judges were still going to be focusing on Tilly, and he’s already done enough to book his place in the next series with the hair flipping and the choreography. Total misread of the situation.

It didn’t work anyway, the judges all unanimously saved Rhys Tilly made a wonderfully composed speech that rightly drew the attention back to her (Nikita’s shirt was back on) and they had an awkward last dance.

On ITT, they tred to justify it a bit as Tilly accidentally undoing one button and the shirt having a mind of its own, but Nikita more or less admitted that he was willing to try anything after seeing Rhys’s dance. It put Dan’s comment about undoing two buttons as per the ITT recap into context.
