Ghosts 3.2

A suggestion that this is contemporary-ish, without mentioning C-O-V-I-D or the P-A-N-D-E-M-I-C, with Mike starting his new job…from home, so he could nearly rock Julian’s look with shorts down below and a shirt and tie up top.

And Julian introduced a new kind of flashback, I believe, as he recalled the one time he was out of his depth i.e. getting used to being a ghost. I laughed a lot at Robin’s rather mean amusement at newbie Julian’s misfortunes, but it epitomises the show that we ended up full circle with Julian being willing to play chess with Robin by the end of the episode.

The montages were funny, especially Kitty and Pat dancing. And aww, Pat, kindly seeing that Alison needed Kitty gone, but getting overwhelmed by the dance monster he’d created.

Because Alison had even more on her plate than normal. I was somewhat glad that Lady Fanny sounded a note of caution, although everything we saw of Lucy seemed to be genuine. I especially felt for Alison as most of the ghosts offered their usual loud commentary as she took in the fact that her father had unknowingly fathered another chid and she had a half-sister. (I mean, I know this happens nearly every time Alison has to have an important conversation with an outsider, but this was huge.) Although getting to know Alison will mean even more peculiarities than her seemingly random need to put music on.

Thomas’s one-sided infatuation(s) continues (continue) to be funny, and the interplay with Mary and her fennel vs. onion advice was fun, though I have to admit to only getting the gist of Mary’s response to loose women on the television.

The Captain’s insistence on barking adviie to Mike who still can’t hear him was inherenty funny, but it was the daftness of Humphrey’s made-up Mr Cheese that really tickled me, although that’s a lot of knowing how phone conversations work for someone who’s head being separated from their body makes them the ghost who’s the least in on th action.

In between all the funny and the heartwarming, there was a chance to get a bit meta, with Julian saying that The Grey Lady and the headless ghoul were a bit tropey, although he was less convincing about Pat. That bit was possibly inspired by discussions with American producers about the show.
