Three-Sentence Ficathon ficlets (March to May)

May 29, 2021 16:25

My final contributions to the Three-Sentence Ficathon months after everyone else/it closed.

For the prompt ‘Any fandom, any character, fandom-appropriate limerick’. Totally fails on the three sentence front. Scorpion. Team.

There once was a cyclone of scorpions
Geniuses all, except for the dumb ones
Who kept them grounded,
safe and connected,
saving the world with ideas of O'Brien's.

For the prompt ‘Any, any, peridot’. Harry Potter, Ginny/Harry drabble.

Ginny pulls the locket out of its box and tries to keep her face neutral at the pale green of the stone, although she's wondering why Harry has got her jewellery in Slytherin colours.

"Erm, they said at the shop that it was your birthstone," her boyfriend says, mumbles really. And she realises ‘they' had to be a Muggle, after a picture of Harry and her snogging on a Quidditch pitch in Witch Weekly has made being out and about a bit difficult over the past few months, so she smiles and asks him to put it on for her.

For the prompt ‘Frankie Drake Mysteries/Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Frankie Drake & Phryne Fisher, a meeting of great private detectives’. 110 words.

These two great detectives meet at the restaurant of the Ritz Paris, introducing themselves over the body of a man they agree was murdered. Frankie notices and compliments Phryne's exquisite jade silk blouse, Phryne appreciates the photos taken by Frankie's miniature camera, which are invaluable in recording the state of the corpse before the gendarmerie have it taken away, and with polite condescension, claim they don't need the so enchanting ladies' assistance. But that night, Frankie's rented bike takes them both to Montmartre, where Phryne's pistol and two quick-witted women prove too much for a jealous younger brother, while the French policemen are still confirming that a murder took place.

For the prompt ‘any, any pairing, "thou and I are too wise to woo peaceably"’. Harry Potter, Minerva McGonagall, Rose Weasley/Scorpus Malfoy. Post epilogue. Drabble.

Minerva watches the scene on the balcony as her staircase glides down past it. Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy are exchanging words with the intensity of duellists hurling spells at each other, regardless of anyone else, including passing Headmistresses. This particular argument might have started today at Arithmancy, where both are vying to top the class according to Septima Vector, or indeed over breakfast, but these two have been bickering since they laid eyes on each other as First Years, and Minerva is long enough in the tooth to know where this is headed, whatever their parents make of it.
