Killing Eve 3.7 Beautiful Monster
My opinions about this episode should probably be discounted as I was surprise that Irina had to face the ramifications of what she’d done at the end of the previous episode. It sounds like she’s a wee psychopath/sociopath, Konstantin. The scene at the table, despite its specifics, was Bratty Teen pressing Disappointing Dad’s buttons.
Helene bragged about her own killing skills, while playing inappropriate mommy to Villanelle, who called her out on it and still managed to lie about killing her mother. A new young killer lady was introduced, and she seemed much more menacing (not having dialogue will do that) and capable than that boy Villanelle was supposed to manage. I submit the death of Mo and his useless code.
I’m getting a little tired of the not quite killing characters off, though. Eve killing Dasha would have been big for the character - she had motivation (although a viewership whinged, ‘no, not until Harriet Walter and Fiona Shaw have graced the screen together kthxbi’) in an episode where Villanelle refused to kill. Eve was slightly less negligent over Konstantin than Villanelle had been, but he was left to the kindness over Aberdonians.
Okay, the final scene of laughing survivors was cool, but the effect of all these near deaths is mild annoyance. Mo might as well have been wearing a red shirt all season. Bear should have learned from Kenny, but Eve bossed around following clues.
They tried to make out the unconvincing investigative website had a backstory. I remain unconvinced.
Who paid for Eve’s train ticket? Was her driver he guy from Taggart?
Vilanelle, agent of chaos, wore very eye-catching costumes in Scotland. And even so, the terrorised non-victim didn’t mention the weird green fur suit when describing her. Way to make him a caricature; his name might has well have been Gross Sexist-Pig.
Dasha let slip that she had a son - chances of Villanelle meeting him, messing with his head and killing him once she’s over this hump? High.
The soft Scottish accent from Comer was ace, and the back and forth between V and Dasha, v. entertaining. Villanelle stuck to not wanting to kill and to being in cahoots with Konstantin, who kindly gave her the info about the money because ??? Is it a feature of a heart attack that you answer all the questions bossy ladies throw at you?
Geraldine turned out to have a spine vis a vis Konstantin. Well done her for listening to her mother. When she goaded Carolyn into expressing her emotions, I was all…’Do you really want to go there?’ Loved after the explosive expression of feeling, you could hear the burr come out in contrast to the more controlled posh English Carolyn usually essays. Don’t you go having a heart attack, Carolyn.
I’m pondering whether the phone call once Eve had arrived at Liverpool Street overkill? I thought the ships passing in the night wave was all that was needed emotionally. Ah well, I suppose it was for plot reasons, establishing that Villanelle can contact Eve any time she wants. And those two are on the same wavelength-ish.
