Agents of SHIELD 6.10 Leap

This didn’t quite go as I expected, but Sarge coming back to life after being shot four times - to Fitzsimmons’s incredulity; they also couldn’t believe how much he looked like Coulson - did lead to lots of Gotham jokes. The agents asked ‘why?’ and then, in a nice, if conflict-free scene, Daisy, Yo-Yo and Piper discussed how guns aren’t May’s thing and all the issues that had occurred to me, then agreed how they’d investigate that. May then claimed she didn’t remember doing any killing.

I could have done with a connecting scene between Yo-Yo believing May to her joining forces with Daisy.

Simmons was a little cavalier/optimistic over how dangerous Sarge was. I doubted that a guard would be much help. I was also dubious about her convincing Fitz of this, but he’d breezed off, and at least he was investigating what could have gone on. I found the whole business with Deke, trying to gain his grandfather’s approval and some direction in this new world, sweet.

Loath as I am to praise him, Mack showed great leadership as they half-realised their danger from body-swopping Izel, suspecting the quiet Fitz (great swticheroo, because I, like most of the audience, surely, thought Deke was the host at that point). They also avoided spilling some secrets - I was surprised it was Linc’s sister who I don’t remember ever being mentioned being the one Daisy sent money to.

The moment where Davis died was tragic because Yo-Yo could have stopped him but was obeying orders. And yes, Davis was a redshirt, but had averted it so long and was at his most entertaining plus noble in being unable to harm Piper this episode. Nice reactions from everyone. Interesting that Daisy disobeyed Mack’s order to stay put, not Yo-Yo. May stepped up as leader without him.

Fitz and Deke started spitballing, their theories being about Sarge (who’d been having dreams of Miss TAHITI as he regenerated before beating cocky Simmons and guard) and monoliths. As Izel approached the gravitonium soccer ball and stop what I felt was impending doom, I wanted May to give Yo-Yo more concise info so she could zoom over there, but it’s one of those episodes where we’re not doing that. Instead, we got an encounter between Super Special Sarge and Izel, who is also impervious to bullets.

Duh, Sarge.

The encounter between Izel and Sorry, I Didn’t Catch That (aka Sarge) was a bit exposition heavy, but the flashbacks from host Coulson felt like answers. Not that I remember how far back Coulson ‘interacted with the Monoliths’ but he remembers adopting Daisy and Fitzsimmons and being kinda in love with May. He also remembered the formless days, but Izel was slow to realise he was a new being, with a horror of what the Shrike did to sentient beings.

Eventually Izel got Yo-Yo and her power (only if the writers remember it/budget allows). Mack tagged along too (which has even more resonance if you read Isel and Sarge’s former self as lovers). Daisy could. Not. Believe. It, but May could and there was a nice callback to Mack’s earlier comment about her becoming his right hand in how she understood and supported him.

There was a sad bit in the montage about Davis, I was less sorry for cocky Jemma and her ouchie, and Fitz mentioned Ghost Rider to Deke, which tickled me, but also reminded me that Coulson was kinda possessed for an episode and they never tied that string up, or was that what killed him? So, is GR coming back at some point?

Some excellent moments in all that, though they could have been more consistent.
