Recs for fanfiction and one fanvid in the following fandoms: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Hour, Jupiter Ascendng, The Man from UNCLE (film), Mary Poppins, Once Upon a Time, Only Loves Left Alive. Pacific Rim and Persuasion - Jane Austen.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Untitled Jenny/Giles “Passion » AU Snippet: havocthecat
This is much more polished and longer than the title would suggest, and though I could have stood to find out what happened next, the ending is not too abrupt. Great Jenny POV, and effective use of her concussion and what actually happened on the show.
The Hour
Pandora’s Box: stellatundra (Post season 2, Lix-Bel friendship, background canon couples.)
Good to have Lix and Bel's relationship foregrounded and to see the similarities and differences between them. I possibly see the show with a more shippy lens.
Jupiter Ascending
Sheafwork: Vanatuivana (Gen, Tsing, crew, Kalique.)
I've read fic about Jupiter dealing with space!paperwork, but of course Tsing and crew would have to as well. Ting is so sympathetic, diligent, competent and far from unfeeling. Fun to read.
The Man from UNCLE (film)
(tonight): misbegotten (Gaby/Illya, teen, ficlet)
This is gorgeous. The use of brackets is spectacular.
Mary Poppins
Shadow and Light: chaila (Mary Poppins/Bert)
The eyes have it! This vid makes a beautiful case for the ship.
Once Upon a Time
seasons turning in waltz time: intrikate88 (Belle/Rumpelstiltskin, no spoilers beyond season 1, I think)
Delicious! Great dialogue between them and also great complexity of characterisation.
Only Lovers Left Alive
Pages Turn and Years Pass: merriman (Eve/Adam, pre-canon)
Loved this examination of Eve's bibliophilia, the generalities of which I could empathise with, but also the specificity of what reading and book ownership meant for Eve. The ending grabbed me in the heart.
Pacific Rim
You Like Me: dutchydoescoke (Raleigh/Mako high school AU)">
I have anime heart eyes for this fic, as Raleigh does for Mako here. I like his attitude and the translation of canon to the setting. (Might be too sweet for some tastes.)
Persuasion - Jane Austen
A Small Evening Party: TwoWeevils (canonical couples, future fic)
This is witty and heart-warming. I loved the use of Mary's letters, the new characters interacting with the old and most particularly the language, such as the nautical expressions. A lovely Christmas story, with a sense of things having been put right, even if Mary wouldn’t believe it.
