Belated TV post

As I said, here's my TV episode reaction post.

Gotham 5.5 Pera Duna

This began with Jim and Harvey showing us how not to try to shake down an arms dealer. (Probably needs an ‘again’.)

Fortunately, Jim’s old soldier mate Eduardo (Shane West - I’d been spoiled he was joining the cast, but still, I’m delighted, although I don’t know about him playing a Latino character) turned up from the mainland with weapons, and it didn’t matter he’d killed the potential informant of an arms dealer, sparing Jim from throttling, because the arms dealer had a handwritten ledger!!! Harvey felt partner envy

Meanwhile, Bruce displayed a protective streak/lack of respect for Selina’s agency, which is kinda sweet, kinda deluded, kinda par for the course. Jeremiah was dead (but with an eye to the credits, I was sanguine about THAT not sticking), which made Selina a murderer, apparently. It seems to me like it was all Ivy’s cure, which Selina definitely took freely, but Bruce is always going to see it as him giving it to her.

Ed continued to have Two Face’s plotline, no? He wasn’t interested enough in why his alter ego had done something abhorrent, even by his standards, but Eduardo got to see what kind of villain Jim had been dealing with. Off ground touch! And then a puzzle to solve.

Bruce learned Selina was good for free drinks at Sirens for what she’d done to Jeremiah.

Oswald (heh to bullets as currency, and he’s got a new Mr Pen) learned what Ed had done, which was always going to be more interesting than the crowd at large gaining this information. But Ed was actually captured by dog-loving rednecks (of the Gotham variety) whose means of killing him slowly - electrocution - brought forth an intriguing flashback, suggesting Oswald had something to do with bringing him back to life. They dragged that all out a bit, but I appreciated the Beware of the Dog! sign in the background.

Selina and Bruce rehashed old ground about Bruce knowing who Selina is, while she pretended she still doesn’t care about anything, least of all her murderous rages.

Ed and Oswald had a big old confrontation, which was as much of a thing of beauty as you could expect with Ed bringing up Oswald naming his dog after him. And Oswald’s logic was so true to him. After blaming Dr Strange for whatever was up with Ed, they exchanged impassioned vows (I don’t ship them, but I imaging the shippers were overjoyed) about how they’d betray/kill each other. Their détente ended swiftly as shock and awe struck in the form of Harvey and the soldiers.

(I’m going to take ‘Saddle up’ as this episode’s Western moment.)

Several Gotham-y interactions followed. Donal Logue really sold Harvey, of all people, giving Bruce the advice to keep putting one foot in front of t’other, but Harvey Does Paperwork Now would have worked better if Harvey hadn’t whined about not being a desk jockey earlier in the same episode.

Strange enjoyed torturing Nygma. Twist reveal, Eduardo’s boss was controlling Ed, although it all made no sense. Ed looked somewhat pathetic and Jim couldn’t summarily execute him, so Eduardo ordered Ed to hunt and kill Jim. Reluctantly, but still.

Turned out Strange had nothing to do with Jeremiah, who just hadn’t died in the regular Gotham way and had set up Selina and Bruce for misery.

Enjoyable performances from Monaghan, Lord Taylor and Smith, with West bringing something new as The Outsider.

Killing Eve 2.5 Smell Ya Later

Hum. Eve decided to get Villanelle to interview the Ghost, in the belief that she could break her, so she wanted to put a hit on herself. Everyone (bar Carolyn) thought this was a crazy idea. Villanelle indulged in preparatory mourning, which Eve found a little sexy (poor Nico). And even Villanelle pointed out it was a crazy idea when she called on Eve.

We examined the impact of all this on Eve. I was mainly confused because I recognised the psychopathy expert from another show, and then that was the worst presentation ever, although I too clocked Eve’s reaction to seeing the bloodied body as compared to the others’. But then Carolyn’s response to that was approving… She was going to let Eve be bait anyway, but not on the books (I’d thought Eve was circumventing her beforehand).

I suppose the big thing we’re meant to be wondering is did they or didn’t they. I daresay most fic says they did.

Eve’s stomach may not be as strong as she thinks it is, she has pity for assassins.

The really interesting interaction was Villanelle dropping in on Nico and playing him.

Is Kenny free of all this?

I note how Carolyn and Konstantin were sitting in a nearby car, watching Eve and Villanelle get picked up.

Agents of SHIELD 6.7 Toldja

Frankly, the chief thought in my mind after this episode was ‘they’re set on recycling those sets’. Enoch’s cool doohickey…took them back to Kitsom. Having found Fitz, Jemma had a deep case of the ‘wanna go homes’. But we had to meet Mr Kitsom to talk about grandfathers’ legacies and have some business witht guillotines, and not even Space!guillotines at that. Having had guillotines appear in Gotham recently, I’m somewhat !?!? But I called red-headed bob saving Fitzsimmons. I’m now wondering if her artefacts are the Shrike, although it’s a weird disguise for a planet-obliterating monster, so I’m holding off from liking her, though I would otherwise as she has confidence backed up by competence. And then we had the return of the other set they built to transport them. (I’m sure they’ll get back to Earth to re-use Jemma’s bedroom set.)

Back on Earth, May had a low-keyish role, although she was quite emotionally on the ball. Daisy had a lot to cope with, although the return of annoying, idiotic, slightly adorkable Deke trying to impress her and failing makes me grin. His big moment came when he reamed Mack out for not telling him his grandfather has died but his grandmother was rescuing him, and Mack came back with ‘you left’. I’m still on Deke’s side about that one. He might have made different decisions if he’d had all the info. Mack managed to impose on him and Daisy not to fly back out into space immediately on another rescue mission, and everyone seems to have forgotten Piper and Davis, although I appreciated that we had a couple of established redshirt faces (who survived) around.

Mainly this episode was about Mack and Sarge posturing (I have a fire-breathing ticket out of here cockiness. No you don’t! We’ve captured two Hosts cockiness. And you’re going to bring them together and you’re going to need my help cockiness.)

We learned Sarge and Coulson are DNA matches, Sarge saw pretty much everyone’s response to him.

I’m not even engaging with the takes on Mack/Yo-Yo. I felt there were moments where she could have used her powers in the Zephyr (with her, the writers should always be asking if she should be using her powers in the field). Snowflake hearing what was going on and being flummoxed by Quake was a good bit.
