Babbling about writing

When I said I had emerged from the Monarch of the Glen rabbithole, I wasn’t entirely honest, because there had been fic writing and there would continue to be as I thought about Lexie and Archie, mainly. I’ve posted three ficlets, all some flavour of Lexie/Archie. If not the fire in thy veins was inspired by a comment_fic prompt. It was written very soon after I’d seen 1.07, the key season 1 Archie/Lexie episode, and not much else, so Lexie was a much better cook in the first draft. I’d also just read a switching POV fic, and so that was an intentional choice. I’ve been refining it since, influenced by that episode with the barrel of whisky and so on. It’s also grown in length.

The inspiration for The Valiant MacDonald was Lexie’s attention-seeking clothes. This was written during season 3, but before the staircase incident, and set earlier. By mainly being about Archie lusting after Lexie, it almost works as a companion piece to ‘If not the fire in your veins’ though it’s in a different register. Finding a title for this was a pain. Both ficlets nearly passed the 1,000-word mark.

And then I saw a prompt about cuddling last week, which is a key word for this ship, so that was an excuse to write Always within Reach. And I may have a lot of headcanon about how it all works out fine for Archie and Lexie offscreen. If I could have justified writing a fic based on Wikipedia summaries for the last few seasons, I would have. Anyway, in my head, they had kids, and I overthought their names and everything. The prompt was on a drabble or multiple drabble day.

I am afraid to delve too deep into what these ficlets show about what I think of how MotG presents Lexie as Archie’s future wife. Hector gets it in the neck in two of them, and I don’t apologise for that.

For some reason Molly is not offered as a MotG character on ff.net.

I wanted to post something this month, as this has been a surprisingly fruitful year. I’m trying to play in the Three Sentence ficathon in between holiday rushing about.
