Mr. and Mrs. Smith

It's worth cheering about this film, a barbed, explosive, dark and sophisticated treat from Hollywood that's sexy and smart, that works to the end. Finally! I loved the script (so many little nods to spy and hit-men conventions, riffing off the ups and downs of wedded bliss, okay, mainly the crabby and bitchy downs), the action (this couple leaves debris behind when they work out their domestic issues; I think that very little this yea will surpass the final explosion that does for their perfect house.)

Pitt and Jolie revel in it (and this shall have to go down as the movie where I admit that Brad Pitt has pretty eyes. Surely that's a milestone of some sort.) And who wouldn't, they have great lines, great stunts (Jolie in particular gets to do a lot of zipping around, while Pitt gets to pratfall, usually when he's feeling murderous) but apart from being cool, these characters are also very human. (And adults to boot.) And yes, they smoulder, with the vicious fights working as foreplay and metaphor.

Meanwhile Vince Vaughn does the sarcastic sidekick to a 't', Adam Brodie made me laugh helplessly and loudly (the fact that his character is nicknamed the Tank is partially to blame. Adam brodie plays - The Tank. Snerk.) There's flamenco music and perfect song choices, there's death threats while dancing, there are caches of weapons hidden all over a very pristine and posh home!!! It's escapist but familiar ground, and I thought it was excellent.

And again, the UK ratings people go higher because of the violence - rated 15 here, PG-13 in the US.

Heh, it has a community mrnmrssmith says she, having added the film as an interest mere hours after having seen it.

Trailer wise: The War of the Worlds trailers are improving from the one that made me laugh. Also, it is typical that the one thing I'm worrying about re Batman Begins is Alfred. Its hard for me to see Michael Caine as subsuming himself in the role, and I loved Michael Gough. (Remember Little Voice, remember Little Voice.)

I have a to do list of doom to sort out in my head. Fun. Instead, I have edited and added bitses to this post.
