NCIS: LA 4.6 Rude Awakening

The whole Sam (backed up by the team) battles the arms dealer who has Soviet-era nukes plot continues, with Sam also battling the CIA as represented by a smarmy agent he once worked with, with the act of him removing his wedding ring at the start of the previous episode being significant. Like Kensi and Deeks, I was clueless, and was still thinking when Sam, having very sincerely threatened to go to the ends of the earth to avenge Quinn (the actress who played Madeline Hightower in The Mentalist), punched up the gym lockers that he was feeling guilt about adultery. It clicked together to reveal that Quinn was his wife and had retired from the game to live a normal life and bring up their kids.

While I am mainly more interested in what Kensi and Deeks make of all that, given the way that Hetty at least has been nudging them, I hope the show is sympathetic to Quinn too as it follows up her saying that getting back in the game is tempting her to do it permanently. I totally winced for Sam when she suggested that she hadn’t felt alive while being ‘Mrs Sam Hanna’ because ouch, ouch, ouch. However, he seems to be asking her to give up something he won’t and has had eight extra years of. I mean, there is no way he’s going to go, ‘I’ll take eight years off to look after our kids and you do this, baby.’

In other news, everyone else played support roles, some better than others. The manoeuvre to get the footage of the hitman by the four officers deserved far more plaudits than lugubrious Grainger (never mind that he came through for Sam also) was willing to give. The whole business at the hotel wasn’t as good - couldn’t Callen have waited for a go from Eric, or did I miss clear signs of leaving from the arm’s dealer’s party?

Very little Kensi/Deeks action, beyond defaulting to being a fake couple - although it made sense in the context - and then switching to be partners who tossed guns at each other.

As for other TV shows, I need to catch up on Poldark, have started catching up on Fearless and will post about that in one go, and I've even been watching a bit of my Smallville DVDs.
