Because I haven't been navel-gazey enough about my DVD watching habits of late.
Inspired by Den of Geek's Simon Brew's feature about
Top 25 films that people have seen more than five times., which by 'people' means a small group of people who use a certain platform, I started thinking about my rewatching habits. I didn't grow up with a video player in the house like many of my peers, so I don't think I got the habit.
I decided to look up the films I'd rewatched most on DVD (in a not very scientific manner) and the joint top four were@ X-men, Strictly Ballroom, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (extended cut) and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Just behind were: Ella Enchanted; X2, Batman Begins, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and Sky High.
I say this isn't very scientific, because I'm boggled (but not going to look over my records again) that The Two Towers isn't higher. I mean, I get why I'd have watched the first in a franchise more than the ones after, which explains Batman Begins coming above the rest of Nolan's trilogy, and the first and best POTC movie doing so well, but I don't think of it as that much worse than the other two.
Anyway, that's four franchises covered, one of which I was really fannish about in terms of reading fic, ditto Sky High, but more for writing. Then there's the mood-enhancing Strictly Ballroom which I love and want to rewatch more than the rest of the Red Curtain trilogy and Ella Enchanted which I prefer to watch over films that I think are better, because it is pretty and features singing. Also, I've owned most of these for many a year.
What was definitely clear to me, though, was that I'd rewatched my DVDs a lot less than I thought I had. So, I may well be making more of an effort to rewatch some films.
Part of the reason for that may be that I've seen most of these films in the cinema, possibly more than once before getting them on DVD. I didn't include cinema viewings or watching films on video or TV, otherwise some of these (e.g. POTC) would be much higher and Ever After (another Cinderella story) and Dirty Dancing would be in the mix.
Oh, and for TV shows, North and South (which is a mini series compared with most shows) is the one I have rewatched the most on DVD.
