On writing

Jul 03, 2016 08:57

So, that was a crammed week for me, it turns out. I posted a ficlet last Sunday: Codename: SNAPDRAGON, which features Susan Cooper/Rick Ford from Spy. I didn’t expect to write in that fandom, yet Susan’s journey pinged me hard, Ford is gloriously ridiculous and the prompt hooked me. It is probably the tamest fic written for the film, ever. I first drafted it in May, a few days after the prompt appeared, and then kept waiting for a Sunday, which is the comment-fic day for posting fills for previously unfilled prompts, when it was convenient to post.

A week and a half or more after I saw it on the f’list, the AO3 writing meme.

What's your first and second most common work ratings? Any surprises?
General Audiences (98) and then Teen And Up Audiences (15). No surprise. I know the vast majority of my fics are of the PG variety.

What's your most common archive warning? Least common?
Most common: No Archive Warnings Apply (99). The least common is Underage (2) although I’ve never used Rape/Non-Con or Graphic Depictions Of Violence. The underage ones are for Julie/Luke from The O.C., which was a canonical pairing.

Do you consider yourself an adventurous writer?
Not really, although I am a multi-fannish one.

How many fics have you written in each relationship category? Is this more accidental, or do you have preferences?
F/M (86); Gen (38); Multi (1); Other (1). I’m a hetshipper.

What are your top 4 fandoms by numbers? Are you still active in any of them, and do you tend to migrate a lot?
Dark Angel (29); Sky High (9); Downton Abbey (7); Harry Potter (6). I’ve still got a lot of fics to post on AO3, so the Dark Angel numbers should be even higher. I’m definitely not active in that fandom any more. I’ll never say I’m over Sky High - another watch of the film might send me back to my works in progress or have me writing something else. I suspect I’m done with writing Downton Abbey because it’s a closed canon, although you never know, and I’m still consuming Downton and HP fanworks. Again, I might write more Potterverse fic too. I don’t think I migrate so much as accumulate.

What I do need to do is go back to reposting fic, because I suspect that some are only available on fanfiction.net.

What are your top 4 character tags? Does this match how you feel about the characters, or are you puzzled?

Alec McDowell | X5-494 (23); Max Guevara | X5-452 (21); Layla Williams (6); Warren Peace (6). Alec was my favourite character in Dark Angel, so I’m not surprised I wrote more about him than Max. With the other two, I suppose Warren gen balances out my feeling obliged to write ‘it’ll never last’ Layla/Will.

What are your top 2 most used additional tags, and your bottom 2? What would happen if you combined all 4 of these into a fic?
Joint top three: 3 Sentence Fiction (8); Double Drabble (8); Drabble (8) and next Comment Fic (7)
Joint lowest 3: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence (2); Community: comment_fic (2); Vignette (2) and next highest Future Fic (4)

It would be a short fic that would be set a long time after something different happened to what aired in canon.

How many WIPs do you have currently running on AO3? Any you don’t plan on finishing?
None. I tend to write one-shots, but I would never post a WIP.
