The Musketeers 3.3
Poor show. It's spending its last season being shunted around the schedules because of the football, and the next episode is being aired now, but I've decided to play it safe and catch-up.
In some ways this was confusing. I think I misconstrued what Gaston was doing, apart from auditioning to be an Anne Rice vampire, in the opening scenes. I eventually grasped that he was a bit rubbish as a plotter.
However, I do believe I have disambiguated Marchaud and Lucien and their roles as Farron’s henchmen, so that’s something.
Someone needs to give Anne a hug (A HUG, Constance, not reality checks, although if Constance is rushing in everywhere with swords, which I don’t disapprove of, she might not be the single parent were the D'Artagnans to have kids, which I wondered might be the take-out from the exchange of glances with D’Artagnan over Madame and Monsieur Bartenders). She has to be cold and controlled and make the most of what little authority she has.
Louis’s sickness was quite the revelation. He's still a fool, though, but now he's an extra tragic one. Gage is good as him, though, while Everett’s enunciation choices are still a drama in and of themselves.
Sylive returned to be feisty and catch Athos’s eye. I can’t deal with non-angsty Athos. I know it's been four years, but he's been at war during them.
Lots of teamwork and team rescues and loyalty, to prove that however hampered they were by the King’s mad orders, under Gaston and farron’s influence, the Musketeers did get the soldiers’ issues and resentment. I also liked the Musketeers training the baby Musketeers, although I am fairly sure that ‘head over heart’ was a bit of enormous hypocrisy from D’Artagnan.
Entertaining in spurts, if a bit !?!?!
Parks and Rec 6.13 Ann and Chris
In what was a series of leave-takings and attempts to give thoughtful gifts and pull off thoughtful surprises, I did laugh out loud a couple of times, at Donna, Larry and Ron, I think. I liked that we got Chris’s reasoning for not starting to pack before - I remember vaguely wondering ‘Aren’t they leaving before the baby comes?’ in the last couple of episodes, that we got Leslie and Ann working together on a very Pawnee scheme to get what they wanted, and that all these supportive relationships were given proper attention. The last scene ending with a shot of Pawnee was rather impressive.
6.14 Anniversaries
It’s nice that Jim O’Heir and Retta join the credits after being around since always.
But Ben having Larry help with the big old surprise seemed like such a bad idea to me. I was watching him light candles with worry.
We finally saw April (and Donna!?!?) working at the Animal Rescue. How do those hours and arrangements work?
Ben ending up having to take Larry on all the carefully planned excursions was amusing, especially because we saw Larry at his best, but the tango lesson was The Best, especially because Larry was leading.
Grumpy old marrieds were, as anyone could have guessed, unhappily wed, but the ‘young’uns’ coming up with a great idea for Leslie made up for it.
As for the ending, trying to be competitive WITH LESLIE over a gift is futile.
