One last look back at 2015

Jan 11, 2016 21:34

Getting my 'fannish year' meme out of the way - adapted from my usual and others I've seen around.

Your main fandoms of the year

The Mentalist in terms of fic output, which still surprises me. Marvel Cinematic Universe in terms of fic reading. Also Poldark, Strictly Come Dancing, Downton Abbey.

Best film you watched this year

Inside Out (although it has to be said that my Joy was well in charge of things when I was watching Jupiter Ascending).

Best book you read this year

Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein, but I’ll probably reread a lot of other books I read this for the first time in 2015 before it.

Your favourite album or song to listen to this year

Late Night Tales by Jon Hopkins and Gillie Amma I Love You from it.

Your favourite TV show of the year

Dramas: The Mentalist had a pretty great last lap, considering; Wolf Hall was excellent; and I thought Esio Trot was delightful and An Inspector Calls was riveting. Comedies: Brooklyn Nine-Nine made me laugh a smidge more than Parks and Recreation (season four). And Strictly Come Dancing is irresistible.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year

Poldark, Jupiter Ascending (although I was expecting it since 2013) but fandom exploding in glee was fun, soulmark AUs...

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year

The Good Wife’s sixth season.

Your biggest squee moment of the year

All of Jupiter Ascending, so much Ruth in Spooks: the Greater Good, episode 4 of Poldark, Demelza’s terrible curtsies, Demelza reading, I’m probably blanking on some excellent moments in The Mentalist and Selina/Bruce scenes in Gotham. Ooh, Edith letting rip at Mary - deservedly so! - and Juliette ‘incognito’ in that scooter thing at a hipster fest in Nashville.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to

Agent Carter. (I know I said this last year.)

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year

Finishing watching Person of Interest season 3 on DVD. The return of Poldark, Parks and Recreation (to Dave) and if, this had been written sooner, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Are the rest of Sherlock and the next instalment of Wolf Hall out this year?

I recently found out Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are reuniting onscreen...for A MUSICAL. It’s called La La Land. And, surely, there will be singing and dancing!!!!

More seriously, if it could be better than Gangster Squad (low bar) and more consistent than Crazy Stupid Love, that would be marvellous. But my heart wants The Artist or Singin' In The Rain all over again.

The Lego Batman Movie is out in 2017, right? So, there’s little competition, because I will go and see a pile of franchise movies: Captain America: Family Squabbles; Star Trek Beyond; The Huntsman and Here Have Some Awesome Women who Don’t Include Snow White' Why are Batman and Superman Fighting again and Please Don’t Screw Up Wonder Woman; but I have qualms about them all.)

I’m also keen to see The Revenant and have been since first seeing the trailer, and there was intriguing casting news about the new Bourne movie.

Favorite het couples of 2015: Gaby Teller/Illya Kuryakin, Steve Rogers/Maria Hill, Demelza Carne/Ross Poldark, Patrick Jane/Teresa Lisbon, Edith Crawley/Bertie Pelham, Baxter/Molesley, Jake Peralta/Amy Santiago, Bill Shakespeare/Anne Hathaway (Bill), Haymitch/Effie, Bruce/Selina (best thing about Gotham and I read the TDKR novelisation this year), Juliette Barnes/Avery Barkley, Ruth/Harry (thank you, Spooks movie), Raleigh Becket/Mako Mori (another tie-in novelisation. Shut up.)

Favorite main character of 2015: Um, Steve Rogers or Katniss Everdeen.

Favorite other character of 2015: Demelza Carne/Poldark, Sameen Shaw, Ben Wyatt, Amy Santiago (I was so chuffed at her run in fandom March madness), Louise (Revenge), Niska Elster, Septimus Spratt and his secret identity.
