Brooklyn Nine-Nine 2.23 Johnny and Dora

As ever, amusing and more plusses than minuses as a season finale. The shipper in me liked that Jake stepped up to admit his feelings for Amy, even if it made it awkward, which the comedy fan in me appreciated. (He thinks his German accent is better than his Jamaican? Bless.) And they had to work it out while they were working together - as an undercover couple. Tropey goodness.

Sure, pick Gina and Terry to find your letter for you, Holt. I actually liked that he told them about the unwanted promotion. Gina was so competent with finding out the info.

And Rosa having to put up with a surprise birthday party and Boyle made for another good third strand, because Rosa and Boyle’s Boyleness. (Although all she needed to do was talk to Santiago and/or Peralta when she was working with them to find out they knew nothing about the surprise party.)

Terribleness from Jake as a fake fiancé redeemed by one bit of truth about respecting her opinion. FAKE KISSING! Awkwardness. MOAR FAKE KISSING! Moar awkwardness. Holding back the news about Holt’s promotion worked out as motivation to get those two into the headspaces and a suitable location for real kissing. My response was a notch down from what Boyle’s would have been, but they’re adorable puppies. Of course, canon couples don’t generally go very wrong at this point in proceedings, but I hope the show doesn’t go very wrong with these two.

I can’t believe that Captain Holt (and Gina) won’t be back. In face I don’t.

I was expecting him to reveal that he had somehow been wearing a wire, although waiting for the stunt casting of the new Captain and what direction they’ll take with them for five minutes/a couple of episodes is a good enough cliffhanger. The ‘eight minutes later’ gag would have worked better if they’d used it the first time he was patted down and repeated it.

The episode was only up for one more day, so it was good that I got around to watching it. The show always amuses me and I'm glad to watch it, it's just that it was in The Good Wife slot, and then when I fell behind on TGW, I was even further behind on this, and you always think it's going to be easier to catch up on a thirty minute, or not even that, comedy.
