Revenge 4.17 Loss

Hardly a subtle opening, because I’d got as far as realising that forcibly separating Carl from Jack was not going to go down well with Emily on my own, thanks.

But I gasped with pleasure at Stevie’s return. Still, with Margiaux hearing the baby’s heartbeat and seeing images of it moving, the theme of this episode - the parent-child bond - was already achingly clear, minutes in.

It’s hilarious that Stevie also knows. Pretty much all the named characters ever on this show know that Emily is Amanda now...So, her later offering Margiaux the chance to reveal her real identity was less weighted than it should have been, objectively. Obviously, it was big for Ems.

I doubted that Emily would have time to bother voting against naming the wing after Daniel when she was so busy with Jack’s case/revenging her childhood trauma by proxy. Well, Nolan did leave what he thought was his grieving wife for Jack, which was at the back of my mind during the impassioned speech to the social worker, but Emily is a better multi-tasker and did take the time to vote. Even though the idea is ridiculous, but no-one could tell Victoria that because it was all displaced grief and using her money and power for that aim kept her relatively non-hostile.

I...find it hard to believe that Margiaux’s henchman is so devoted to the Le Marchal name that he wants to keep trying to bring Emily down (and he’s a pro, so it shouldn’t be pride by being matched/beaten at hand to hand by a young woman making him refuse to give up). I know they were trying to ‘keep’ Margiaux sympathetic by having her pull back from wrecking a child’s life - and of course, there were the ramifications of what she believed about Lymond’s death driving her assessment - but Margiaux being motivated by grief/the urge to protect hers is more convincing.

The scene between Stevie and David about second chances was rather lovely. I also enjoyed Emily’s Lady Justice takedown, but David talking her down from revenge was, again, lovely, because this gets to the core of the show and one of the things that have kept me invested all this time. And she gets paid for it by a taxi driving into still angry Margiaux. Alas.

Yay! for Louise telling Nolan, for her sake. Boo! Nolan for giving into his libido right at that second.

STEVIE’S STAYING! I’m glad they saw that that was necessary, because I was afraid they’d undercut all she’d been saying by having her leave. It was an effective sequence to have her, Victoria and David being there for their ‘children’. (Although obviously losing Daniel’s child is devastating and Victoria’s connection to Margiaux is...tangled, she does have two living biological children and the show might want to remember that.) Angry, bitter and lying Margiuax making tatters of Emily’s good intentions made for a good ending, though.
