Strictly results.
Couldn’t watch it live, so had to catch up.
I’d noticed Pixie was trending on Yahoo! and had got worried that that meant a shock result and that I’d be really ruing the phone number mishap. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case and she was among the first lot revealed to be safe.
So, I could enjoy Copacobana, which came off as a right old hootenanny.
I appreciated the slo-mo of Simon’s armography. We got an explanation of Len’s scoring philosophy (and I could fill in Craig’s thought bubbles with some sympathy).
The second Manilow number wasn’t as good. First of all, the song itself - I don’t much care for It’s a Wonderful World at the best of times, but the ‘duet’ did nothing to it, especially as I don’t believe Manilow sang it live. Also, the magic mirror conceit? For a man who’s so strongly assumed to have had plastic surgery? Really?? Finally, although Aljiaz and Joanne danced beautifully, I wouldn’t have put them in red and black, but something cooler, especially as Karen and Kevin had owned the same colour scheme in the other song.
Oh, and going back to the very beginning, button up your shirt, CRAIG. Ew.
The cops and robbers routine was fun, although I spent too much time trying to work out who all the pros were. Was the fourth lady Mrs Trent?
It was right that Sunetra and Steve were in the bottom two. Steve’s footwork and kicks were poor, and he just didn’t have the energy level the jive requires. Meanwhile, Sunetra’s song and the whole concept felt a little too close to the knuckle. I’m glad she was saved, but with the exposing rumba next week and the general standard of the remaining dancers, it may not be for long.
Gotham 1.07
This episode threatened to be a game-changer, but the reset button got pressed hard, except that maybe Jim can trust Harvey a little more, as lieutenants were killed and Oswald got what he wanted. Although after ‘the big reveal’, if Falcone doesn’t realise that Oswald isn’t ultimately looking out for himself - the oath of loyal snitching didn’t preclude Oswals trying to kill Falcone himself - he doesn’t deserve to be a Mob boss.
Barbara was stupid (so, in a way, was Jim, but his recklessness was because he saw no other way out, and at least he could fill out warrants and wield weapons). Jim specifically told her that he wanted her safe because THE MOB would use her as leverage against him. She had no skills to offer - she certainly lacks Oswald’s gift of negotiating with THE MOB. I was not impressed.
I did like the chirpy researcher-cum-doctor and villainous Victor (backed up by a Grace Jones clone trained in shooting and tracking).
Bruce was VERY WORKED UP. But, overall, I wasn’t.
