I caught up on OUaT ep 2 - The Thing You Love the Most via Demand 5 on Saturday and I literally clapped my hands like an enthusiastic cartoon seal at the end and was really glad that I didn’t have to wait much beyond 24 hours for the next episode.
Good call to tell us more about Regina and how the Slightly Less Evil than We Thought, Maybe Queen initiated the curse. I was totally reminded that this is a post-Wicked fairy tale. I didn’t foresee that the obliging man in the castle would be her father, but I did guess that his name would be Henry. I’m sure that we’ll learn in time what Regina’s grudge against Snow was and who else she loved, but I also hope that we find out more about Maleficent and meet her. I expect we will.
Thinking of the decor in the mayor’s office and the mirror and everything, the production design team must be having such fun with this.
Henry is so taking! Even if the kid doesn’t nail all his scenes like a Fanning, his relationship with Emma is my kryptonite (hence the icon). I was still in ‘because she’s your daughter/grandmother’ mode.
I love how female centric this is and feels with the three leads.
They’re going to have to work a little harder on Emma/Sherriff, or for him to, you know, show an interest (or I could look for the bazillion fics involving handcuffs that must have been written and let fanon convince me).
I was glad that Jiminy Cricket redeemed himself. Such small acts of defiance that they can show, although, in hindsight IF, as was suggested, Rumpelstiltskin/Mr Gold has started to remember because of the clock, maybe Mary Margaret and the Sherriff’s little acts of defiance were kindled by Emma’s arrival and decision to stay (which kickstarted the clock).
Emma is such a hero - yay! - taking a chainsaw to the symbolic apple tree was so cool and daft.
I like the storytelling, that it is the kid telling the parent the story...
I then saw 1.03 Snow Falls live (ish - thanks to five + 1)
I find it amusing that a character played by Ginnifer Goodwin is dubbing someone else charming, because she is the charmingest of them all. I was all ‘Nightwatchman’ because they were visually referencing Robin Hood(s) if nothing else (I nearly collapsed at the RHPOT bow and arrow moment). They really made Snow much more interesting - the almost off hand admission that she had ruined the Queen’s life was another intriguing taster. For now, my theory is that it’s something to do with the Huntsman with royal blood who spared her life, but it could be something more traditional. I loved the development of Snow/James’s relationship, such as it was, because there was enough spark there, it’s the kind of ‘ship I like (they were practically bickering on hoseback) and I’m enjoying the playful use of repetition.
And knowing all that, although deliciously there is more to come, we, like Henry the Romantic, were swooning at Mary Margaret/John Doe - the moment she believed and kissed him, The Look. He can’t be married to that woman over here, can he?
EMMA SWAN/JENNIFER MORRISON’S EYELASHES may well kill me.
I thoroughly loved the ending. Just a little balm for all the heartache.
They had David Anders using his American accent (I think I am the reverse of fandom, that does far more for me than his English one, always has)!
The trolls not liking to be mistaken for dwarves made me grin.
And the look - I feel bad for putting down the CGI, because overall, it’s so pretty, and things like the knights’ helmets are really fun. Sets, costumes and production design - the glimpse of the castle as James turned away from Snow on the path.
And now I have to watch myself, because I want to delve into all fandom's exhuberance and STUFF, but I managed to spoil myself for one thing already. I may be putting two and two together to come up with five, but I wish I didn't know the last two.
