The Good Wife (3.08, I think)
Things are cooking nicely - good to have more Kalinda, because I missed her last ep (possibly especially after reading a season 2 fic where she and Alicia were still friends). Obviously, Kalinda is a brilliant investigator, but was it really a stretch to assume that two dead bodies disposed of in the same way and location were killed by the same people, POLICE AND PROSECUTORS OF CHICAGO (who probably would like a Law and Order: Chicago to balance out The Good Wife)? I also loved the Will-Kalinda scene, I always do like their dynamic.
My feelings around Cary/Kalinda are so torturous, although they come down to him wanting her more (and her being more awesome). Basically, I love watching it, although I always think that Cary is in more emotional danger, because yes Dana, she is the one he wants, probably, although you and many other women would be a healthier relationship for him. But oh, he's arrogant/Kalinda's in his head, because I think that to a large extent we can take Kalinda's statement to the firm that she got a new in with the DA's office was what she was going for. She's Kalinda, why is she going to turn down a new source? And even though he didn't know how things happened precisely and made dodgy assumptions, Cary was guilty of downplaying Dana's agency and smarts. She wanted what she thought Kalinda could give - i.e. Will. Dana's probably underestimated how well Kalinda's going to work as a source on that, but she's a grown woman. And she was flirting with Kalinda, probably deliberately, probably unconsciously.
STILL, I am a total sucker, because I did fall a little for the cliched protective!Cary instinctively coming out at the shootout. (HOW MUCH LOVE DO I HAVE FOR KALINDA FOR RECOGNISING THE GUN?) I'm glad that he pulled away - some sanity! But given where Kalinda is at emotionally and how she has used Cary in the past before because of similar hurt, I wonder if the fact that he's rejected her (for now) is only going to add to the attraction for her. So, basically, EVEN MORE TORTUROUS.
In non-Kalinda related strands - that priest had such ridiculously white teeth. Heh to Marissa(?)/Zach (I'd still like to see her interact with Grace) mainly because of Eli's reaction. And I loved how she handled Jackie. While I snickered at Jackoie vs. the laptop, I was horrified, because she rummaged through Alicia's things out of spite, and I'm fairly sure Alicia banned her from the house. Oh, Alicia, yes that picture did look like Grace. I was glad we had some warmth/spark between Alica/Will, even if he was needing more.
The Mentalist 4.11 Always Bet on Red
This ep didn't quite come together for me, I loved constituent parts, but the fact that the case was the weakest strand didn't help. And Jane solved it without trying very hard (almost with one group scene)! Feh.
Cho/Summer is very enjoyable. It shouldn't be, but I am helpless before Samaire Armstrong, even though I didn't like the new hairstyle until she put it up, oh, the gambling scene. I don't think Rigsby has twigged yet, but he was likely overwhelmed by Summer...Autumn. Meanwhile, I am certainly in the 'let her see to your back, Cho' camp.
At least Grace was in on the Return of Red John - although I did think she came off as a little dim for plot/Jane convenience when the video etc came through. Still, she had the tough as nails moment about FBI ex. Rigsby just had the limping lawyer joke gag - it might have worked if Cho had reminded him what his girlfriend does for a living and if we'd seen another scene of it. See, the case was shortchanged!
Some excellent acting from Baker and Tunney, and Lisbon spoke truth and Jane manipulated her but showed her how implicated she was and that she hadn't thought everything through. But neither had he. And the show addressed it (although it was hard to switch off the voice that said that some of this is Bruno 'Masterplan' Heller's fault rather than the characters doing stuff). Still, the stuff about Red John wanting Jane to play with him, and Jane's Janeish contrition - some Jane/Sarah Darcy vibes, no? - were interesting in that they were explicitly present. I am a sucker, because even though I was horrified at Jane using a man who had killed himself to cover his tracks, and they do this all the time, the letter about the monster hunters avenging their daughters had punch. There was also some nice use of light and shade in that outside burial scene.
I then watched Castle 2.02. The announcer seemed apologetic about its cheeky approach to crime, which left me bemused, as it was just following The Mentalist of all things.
Anyway, I enjoyed it,
from Castle literally eating popcorn as he watched the full moon craziness to the sudden uplift in female staff numbers on the floor. I loved Castle's passionate but offhnd pedantry, although nothing came of that strand, and was entertained throughout. Possibly the most shocking bit was when Beckett turned down an offer of coffee, because I'd been starting to wonder if you cut her, would she bleed coffee?
