Brought to you with a lot of 'Shut up, Len!' - I think it's a good thing he's off next week!
I did vote, but it had more to do with what happened last week than this. I'm not sure which was my favourite, I wasn't bent out of shape by the order of the leader board. I can't even tell which was my favourite dance. Kristina and Artem are my favourite crazy Russian choreographers (there was probably nothing wrong with Pasha's work, except that I was bored with the concept of the dance before they started. I didn't spot the incident that got Chelsee all cut up, but I did spot the deterioration in her dance at the end. Also, I was irked with her for MAKING WEDNESDAY ADDAMS smile at the start. So wrong. Meanwhile Jason's Nosferatu was so right!)
So, the choregography. I LOVED Aliona's choreography for a dance (I wonder if someone had to stop her from using that song for a more romantic ballroom dance), but I didn't think it was up to scratch as a tango in this competition. that is, I thought the criticisms about not being in hold and not showing off how good he is at the tango were valid. But Len was totally inappropriate for not making those cricticisms when he should have or how he should have. 'I'm not criticising Harry or Aliona' EH? He was criticising Aliona. INFURIATINGLY he then did it when giving feedback to OTHER DANCES. Plonker. I'm not saying it should have got a 10, ALESHA, even though I loved the style, execution and MANLINER. But don't ruin Harry's paso for me, Aliona.
Artem got told off for not doing enough in hold, but--ack, I was going to go on about how he keeps within the rules, but he was bad about using the lamp-posts rather than having Holly in hold last week too. Anyway, I was so excited about this dance from the second I heard about the concept. OH, ARTEM. My only quibble was that I could have done with more black swan/white swan characterisation. They might as well have both been the same colour. Otherwise the lifts, the fluidity and the lyricism were great. Holly did finally step up. I am also in love with her sense of humour,
The other Aussie/Russian pairing were also great. Quickstep is so the dance of this season. The more I think about it, the more I loved the subtext of Kristina as the pro dancing witch controlling her partner. There were quirky touches about it and style. I have to say, every time Jason opens his mouth, her reminds me of Doug Willis played by his real life father. Bless.
I also loved Brendan's choreography. There were bits of Anita's tango that I really liked (she out-acted Robin), bits that weren't bad of Robbie's paso and I was so glad that Alex came back into her own - the way she deals with James cracks me up. Nancy and Anton should go, obviously. Knowing they were doing a rumba made me shudder. Watching it was horrible. Anton's clearly run out of ideas. Will Audley's cute little daughter save him? She should. He did get his steps right! As Len 'I feel your pain, tall sportsman' Goodman pointed out.
