I posted a Ray/Neela vignette Don't Look Back. It was written about the time the show was finished, rather than after 15.20, I think, because of the thing that happens at County that Neela alluded to that wasn't resolved in canon, which I'd expected. Anyway, I found the draft over Easter, typed it up and polished it a little, et voila. I do love Neela/Ray, and as a TV couple, they'll always be a touchstone for me for shipping with an eye to the long term, beyond hope (I gave up on their being canon twice during the show's run) and despite buckets of angst, having a hope of a viable HEA.

I also went to the cinema again last night, making it four films in four days. These days, it always seems to be feast or famine. I've talked about Kick-Ass. My favourite of the four was Whip It which was lovely. It left me smiling and cheering inside. It's a film about finding something you're in love with doing, good at, but capable of improving, plus growing up. It was also joyous that this was done in a mainly female environment. It's not a new observation, but you're far more likely to come across that dynamic in books than on film or even TV, and the female frienships and familial relationships were part of the reason for the successes of SATC and Mamma Mia!. We see a lot of stories like this but with the gender roles reversed, in fact there'd be even less room for women in your average Hollywood film than there is for men in this film, and the team of women aspect was really refreshing. I do feel that the roller derby sport is what will put people off, even though I want to recommend it to all and sundry (but especially young women looking for heroines). Kirsten Wiig was a revelation (I'd only seen her in Adventureland before), Maebe Bluth's grown up voluptuous! I can't wait to see what Drew Barrymore comes up with next.

And as a result of all the trailers I've seen, I don't want to see SATC2, but I will probably go and see It's A Wonderful Afterlife, Date Night and Iron Man 2. Someone should institute a rescue programme for TV stars in transition to making movies - it looks as if all America Ferrera will be doing in Our Family Wedding is standing about and smiling.
