I've been having a mini Irish film fest over the past few days. What that means is I went to see Leap Year and Ondine. I'd heard of the first a while back, as its the more mainstream. It's a romcom. 'Nuff said. I'd say save it for watching on the small screen on a rainy day. Ireland, Amy Adams and Matthew Goode are very pretty, and his accent is decidedly ropey. You will see everything coming a mile off, and it's no better or worse or more depressing than every recent romcom where the leads have some charm and chemistry.

Ondine flirts with legends and storytelling. Maybe I was more willing to go along with it than the critics, but I loved it. Colin Farrell plays a fisherman who pulls a woman out of the sea in his net. She's frightened and mysterious, but it appears that she brings him good luck (something new for him). His sick, clever, book and word-loving daughter Annie decides she's a selkie, and who's to say she's not right? The adults start half-believing her... Eh, that synopsis makes it sound twee, which it isn't. It's mysterious and in love with/in awe of the sea and telling stories, and tender and funny and dark.

Trailerwatch: I really, really, really want to see Whip It (I did before seeing the trailer anyway, though). There didn't seem to be any upcoming romcoms to advertise before Leap Year. I do NOT want to see Wall Street 2; it just feels like there's nothing in it for me. Having seen the trailer, I am more interested in the prospect of Robin Hood (what is is with Cate Blanchett and chain mail?) than I had been before. I mean, I would have gone to see it, but all the mooted changes did make me wonder what to expect. The Iron 2 Man trailer looked like a lot of fun.
