It would have been, if there hadn't been a server problem. Typical really, it's getting to the time when I need to renew my account and lj plays up. Plus yesterday was not a good day.

Veronica Mars 3-4 'Charlie Don't Surf'
It made me do anagrams! As soon as we got the revelation that Charlie Stone = other son of Aaron...I rushed to find paper and a pen, and it didn't quite come off.

Yay, Jason Dohring! at working the reminder of the levels of how screwed up Logan is and his face as he watched Veronica and Keith do their schtick... amused and hungry, and on the outside.

As time goes on, I'm liking the new version of the title song less and less, though I like the credits images.

I don't like being on the side against the feminist side, but they're such caricatures that it's not hard, and while I probably wouldn't like the fraternities if this was part of my cultural context, I am on Veronica's side re getting to the truth about the rapist. Because blaming the wrong people isn't going to stop him! Durr. Wouldn't the picture of Claire and the New Prime Suspect be important evidence? Will it get to Lamb? Will he pay it any attention? Can we have him in the next ep? Not that Dick wasn't entertaining.

Veronica's handling of the Logan case was more problematic, and the case didn't really work out for me as a logical sequence of events. If the guy who Logan was talking to was skimming his trust fund for Charlie, why just give the info to Logan? It was him, wasn't it? He was taking a risk, because obviously Logan was going to find someone to do a thorough job and find out about the secret half son. I think that the sense of the sequence of events there was definitely sacrificed for dramatic effect. And finding out that there was a secret son was certainly dramatic, but the questions were also there at the back of my mind.

There were two moments when I saw the joke/reference coming up! (she typed, proudly).

I haven't talked about my feelings about the cancellation of VM, or non-renewal. The fact that I'm more gutted that it sounds as if there will be no region 2 DVDs, especially of season 1, is probably telling. I had believed that there were positive signs, but when the news came through, it was a bit deflationary (ditto for Gilmore Girls). Maybe because we went through this last year? I'm disappointed for the people involved, but I'm not sure if the show could have gone on for that much longer, nor how I would have felt about the possible re-jig of staying with Veronica, but having her be an FBI officer, because I love the supporting characters and the involved, but maybe hard to maintain world. As these past few eps have reminded us, how much trauma and mysteries that involve them so personally can people go through? And honestly, American TV network people, not every story can be told in 22 eps season after season. That's a general point more than one about VM, I suppose, eg thinking of FNL, and while I applaud the fact that they've set a final date for Lost for the writers' sake, I don't much care. They should have done it in the first place. Of course, it was an expensive and tricky proposition in the beginning, but obviously one that benefited from knowing the end date.

Speaking of scheduling, the Beeb has got the exclusive right to show Heroes season 2 . This is confident, seeing as season 1 hasn't aired terrestrially. Will the British mainstream take up Heroes? (Chances are, following the popularity of Lost the ensemble show, and Dr Who the skiffy show, and Heroes itself: yes.) If it follows a similar pattern to 24, this might work (of course, I got exasperated with SciFi's attempt to schedule helpfully, so you may not wish to pay me any heed.)

Watched A LOT of TV on Wednesday, even for me. Started off with the last Dawson's Creek ep, so I was sniffly and FNL kept me at that pitch. 1-12 What to do while you're waiting. Ha to the title, given that there was a fortnight's gap for this ep. Actually, that gap made me less sore that we didn't really see Matt's Bad Dad's decision making process. I started off underestimating Matt, but as the ep went on, it was obvious he knew what Buddy Garrity is, and then he was so considerate. Too much so. As Julie and then her family realised, it is too much for a sixteen year old. And I just love them all - Coach's smirk at Julie saying she loved them, while Tami immediately realised something was wrong? LOVED THAT.

I also love Tyra, the Amazonian that she is. I was so tense as the had the Tim encounter post Mom ultimatum, because even tho his apology was obviously sincere (Smash could learn lessons. Actually, Smash needs to learn so many lessons) it just wouldn't work out, and she came through with flying colours. She's awesome, as is the show, because the law-suit is thorny and sad that it came to that. And I will stop spouting declarations of love now.

There was a double bill of Ugly Betty, and it was a bit much. Too rich, I suppose, too much going on at too strong a pitch for too long. Wonder if people who get the DVDs will think that? As I'd only watched the episode before on Sunday, some inconsistencies jumped out at me. Rebecca Romjin wins at bringing in the vulnerability (although the rest of the cast is uniformly good). I was going to talk about books to prove that it is not all tv all the time, but the post is long, so I won't. [ETA: And now I want to talk about other stuff too.] But I did buy the July edition of Empire (out remarkably early), and what is on the cover? Is it one of the half a dozen blockbusters still to come this summer? Oh no. It is the Princess Di to Empire's Daily Express...Star Wars.

friday night lights, tv, veronica mars, empire magazine, ugly betty, grumbling
